Back in the early summer, Motorola introduced the flagship smartphone Moto Z2 Force, which stands out against the competitors' unbreakable screen, as well as support for modules. Let's see what else is interesting in this smartphone.
Scope of supply
In the box with Moto Z2 Force, you can find a charger with USB Type- C, as well as an adapter for a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The fact is that the support for the modules in Motorola smartphones imposes is defined s limitations in terms of design. For example, a company can not transfer a fingerprint scanner to the back panel, otherwise it will be overlapped by modules. Because of this, the Moto Z2 Force has a rather large frame on top, especially the bottom of the screen, where the fingerprint scanner is located, and the Moto logo.
The rear of the Moto Z2 Force body is covered with a polished metal plate with a plastic insert around the perimeter. Here you can see the block of the double camera, in which the flash was originally inserted.
The thickness of the smartphone's case is only 6.1 mm and the weight is 143 grams, but the device does not feel flimsy, , it nicely lies in his hand.
In general, the design of the Moto Z2 Force looks obsolete against the background of the "frameless" flagships of this year, but it can be slightly varied due to overlays with different coatings. In the rest, the case of the smartphone is well assembled, it is comfortable to use.

The Moto Z2 Force uses a 5.5-inch P -OLED display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. According to our measurements, its maximum brightness is 356 cd / m2, and the minimum – 9 cd / m2. Traditionally for matrices of this type the image is colorful, and the viewing angles are maximal. The display provides a color coverage of more than 100% sRGB, but its color temperature goes to "cold" 7000K, and gamma is not uniform.
In the screen settings, you can change the display of colors, changing bright to more natural.
In addition, In the Moto application, you can change the color temperature, making it "warmer". But it works only according to the schedule.
The main feature of the screen of Moto Z2 Force is that it is not covered with glass, but with special plastic ShatterShield, on top of which an additional protective film is glued. Thus, if the smartphone falls, on a solid surface, then the screen in it will not break. The upper protective film is easily scratched, but it can be replaced. In the US, it is being changed for $ 30, while in Ukraine the company plans to equip the smartphone with another protective film. It's also worth noting that unlike similar Motorola displays of previous years, the Moto Z2 Force managed to achieve a high degree of transparency of the plastic, it does not affect the picture quality and it is difficult to distinguish it from the glass.
Platform and Performance
Moto Z2 Force is built on the flagship platform Qualcomm – processor Snapdragon 835, running at 1.9 and 2.35 GHz, as well as graphics Adreno 540. In addition, the device is equipped with 6 GB of operating and 64 GB of internal memory. The latter can be expanded with microSD cards. Here it is worth noting that unlike Moto Z2 Play, Force can only use one SIM card, the second slot is used only for memory cards.
Given the flagship platform, 6 GB of RAM and pure Android, Moto Z2 Force works very well quickly, while the device has a performance margin.
It's worth noting that the smartphone comes with the Android 7.1.1 operating system, Motorola often emphasizes that they do not use their own shell. This should allow the company to quickly release updates for their smartphones. But as you can see in the example of Moto Z2 Force, which has not yet received an upgrade to Android 8.0, this does not always work. I hope that early next year the company will correct its oversight. Moreover, the smartphone uses Bluetooth 5.0, but before running Android 8.0 it works in Bluetooth mode 4.2.
The Moto Z2 Force uses two 12 megapixel cameras with f / 2.0 aperture and no optical stabilization: one color, and the second black and white. Due to the absence of the RGB filter, the black and white camera has a higher sensitivity and a wider dynamic range. If you organize the exchange of data between cameras, then in low light or backlit conditions, you can improve the quality of color images. But how does it work in Moto Z2 Force in practice?
With good lighting, the smartphone camera provides good detail and a wide dynamic range, it perfectly imitates both small branches of trees and clouds.
In poor lighting, it is eaten by aggressive noise. Also affects the diaphragm f / 2.0, which for some reason became smaller than it was in last year's Moto Z, and lack of optical stabilization. Because of the latter, night shots sometimes turn out to be blurry. However, the black-and-white module partly compensates for these shortcomings.
In addition, the second camera is used for portrait mode, and generally allows blurring the background. As in other modern smartphones with this function, the second module is used to measure the distance, and for the blurring of the background is responsible for software. And it does not always work out correctly to determine the edges of the survey object. However, this is the problem of all smartphones of this year, in which there is a portrait mode.
In general, Moto Z2 Force cameras get good shots, but when you shoot in low light conditions, you have to take several photos in order to choose the best option from them.
Moto Z2 Force has one external speaker, it is combined with the spoken one and is located above the display. Despite its relatively small size, the speaker sounds loud, but it lacks volume.
Thus, you are unlikely to miss an incoming call, but for listening to music, the smartphone speaker does not fit.
The headphones can be connected to the Moto Z2 Force either via an adapter with a USB Type-C to a 3.5 mm connector or wirelessly via Bluetooth.
In the slim Moto Z2 Force, the manufacturer managed to fit the battery into 2730 mAh. Given that the thickness is only 6.1 mm, then this is quite a decent capacity. Nevertheless, here we see one more restriction imposed by the modules. To be comfortable with them, the smartphone should have a slim body, and also not a very big weight. Moto Z2 Force fits well with these requirements, but it has less battery capacity than other flagships. However, in practice, the duration of work from one charge at an average load is 24 hours. In the Geekbench 4 Pro autonomy test with a screen brightness of 200 cd / m2, the smartphone under high load worked 5.5 hours.
