Over the last 2-3 weeks, the market for Intel desktop processors has changed beyond recognition. The cost of some CPUs has actually doubled. We considered the causes of the situation in a separate article. The entry-level models were hardest hit by the shortage, so for Intel’s basic gaming system, these changes have consequences. For a long time, the 4-core Core i3-8100 recommended for this category already costs more than $ 200, instead of $ 120 in “good times” and about $ 135 a month ago. The $ 200 base system processor is evil. Particularly aware that recently, for such an amount bundled with a CPU, you could get a good motherboard.

As a temporary solution, we use the Pentium Gold G5500 for the starter assembly . This model also has risen in price to $ 100 inadequate for its capabilities. Opening the line Pentium Gold G5400 is offered for the same price, because choosing from these two options, the older model looks a little better.

Given the resource intensity of new games, fully rely on a 2-core processor, even with Hyper-Threading support, no longer possible. The average number of frames can still remain at the minimum level, but rare events with drawdowns can be pesky in difficult “projects.”

In addition, the Pentium has blocked support for AVX instructions, which can also play a trick on budget chips. A recent example is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey which requires a processor that supports a set of vector instructions for stable operation. Responding to complaints from owners of age CPUs, the developers from Ubisoft promise to submit a patch that allows them to play on chips without AVX, but so far without specific deadlines for the release of such a patch. If HT support still allows you to fool the start-up check for the minimum number of computational threads, then with AVX it is more and more difficult. In any case, Pentium Gold is a necessary measure and an option only for those who, even after an incredible increase in the price of processors, are not ready to abandon the Intel platform. The next step here is the same Core i3-8100, which now costs twice as much. An unenviable perspective.

Much more room to maneuver those who plan to assemble PCs on AMD. The base chips with Zen architecture – Athlon 200GE have already been on sale. Of course, at the start, the price is above the stated $ 55, but even with the initial $ 75, this model has all the chances to gain a foothold in its niche. No, we will not recommend it for the gaming system, although on occasion we will check it in this incarnation. AMD has more interesting options for budget lovers to play.

First of all, it is Ryzen 3 1200 (3.1 / 3.4 GHz). The processor of the first wave Zen is still on sale and for its $ 90 now looks like an offer that can not be refused. Judge for yourself: four full cores, 8 MB L3 cache memory, solder under the cover. Relatively low initial frequencies can be “fixed” at your discretion if you have a motherboard on at least AMD B350 chipset.

Ryzen 3 2200G (3.5 / 3.7 GHz) can be an interesting alternative, especially if you are assembling the system step by step and have not yet decided on a video card. Built-in graphics Vega 8 does not replace a discrete adapter, but it is capable of something in games, especially in modes with low graphics quality settings. A model with an integrated GPU also went up a little over the past month ($ 125), but amid price mayhem with Intel chips, a $ 10 price increase does not spoil the mood.

On the other hand, if you are ready to spend about $ 130 on the processor and in any case buying a discrete graphics card for games, looks very promising Ryzen 5 1400 (3.2 / 3.4 GHz). It is also a 4-core processor, but its position in multithreaded tasks is enhanced by support for SMT technology. The 4/8 configuration looks very attractive, especially in the context of a basic gaming system. The relatively low operating frequency of the processor is easy to increase, given the unlocked multiplier and the frequency potential of Summit Ridge chips. Often, 3.6-3.8 GHz submits without additional effort. If there is a free $ 30, we highly recommend getting up to the Ryzen 5 1400.

Amid the current price of AMD chips, the price of $ 200 for the Core i3-8100 looks completely unjustified. But this is the only way to strengthen the position of the Intel platform. In desperation, it would be possible to calculate the variants with processors of previous generations, but the models of the Kaby Lake family also appreciated significantly. For example, the price of Core i5-7400 jumped from $ 180 to $ 250, because this is definitely not an option for a budget gaming platform. Quad-core processors for such money are no longer needed.

We really like the idea of ​​using the Radeon RX 570 video card series in the basic gaming systems. Models with 4 GB of memory on board are already offered from $ 200. Although, choosing from the most affordable solutions of this family it is easy to get into the old stocks of “miner” devices with a warranty period reduced to 3 months. There may be situations when online retailers take such devices under their care by offering extended warranty service, but in such cases you should definitely clarify this point with the seller before purchasing.

You can buy this for similar money based on NVIDIA's GPU GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB . This is a noticeably more economical model (75 W vs. 120 W), but its performance is much lower. Often we are talking about the one and a half advantage of the Radeon RX 570 4 GB. Needless to say how valuable additional frames / c are for an entry-level gaming system.

If the budget is still rigidly fixed, you can restrict yourself to buying GeForce GTX 1050 3 GB for $ 160–170, although the range of these devices is very small, and 2-gigabyte versions are offered at virtually the same price.

It's nice to watch the decline in the cost of solid-state drives. Yes, there are no discontinuous collapses here, but even a smooth decline in prices allows you to save the budget or look towards more capacious models. Surprisingly, the most affordable SSD of 120 GB can be bought even for $ 25, and for $ 30 you can already choose from models of famous brands. A drive is definitely not the device on which it is worth saving a lot and, if possible, looking towards a larger SSD, but even with a limited budget you can significantly improve the responsiveness of your system. Basic gaming PC, and any system without SSD is already difficult to imagine. Possible, but not necessary.

Now for $ 200 + you can buy only the Core i3-8100, but we exclude such a possibility for the optimal gaming configuration. For a PC of this class, at least a 6-core processor is required. You can wait until the CPU is cheaper, but now no one can predict the exact timing of the price thaw. I would like to hope for at least a minimal pullback, because the jump in Ukraine was very sharp, but so far there are no prerequisites even for this. There is a shortage of processors in retail, which is why prices have been staying at a very high level for more than two weeks. Obviously, in the wake of the shortage of Intel processors, merchants decided to smoothly raise AMD chip prices as well. Over the past month, the value of Ryzen 5 2600 has increased from $ 185 to $ 205. Against the background of unrestrained change of price tags on Intel's CPUs, this already seems like a simple prank, but the fact is unpleasant. In such a situation, you can either put up with and slightly increase the budget, or look at more affordable options. Fortunately for the AMD platform there are very interesting offers. First of all, it is Ryzen 5 1600X which is now easily available for $ 170. Already in the base case, this CPU has a more aggressive frequency formula – 3.6 / 4.0 GHz, against 3.4 / 3.9 GHz for the Ryzen 5 2600. However, due to minimal internal optimizations and more active dynamic overclocking, under multi-threaded By the load in regular modes, these chips will be approximately equal in performance.

In addition, it is worth recalling that the first-generation Ryzen processors, labeled "X", are supplied without a cooling system. Therefore, an additional $ 20–30 for a decent air cooler virtually eliminates the price difference. If it is still important to save UAH 500–700, you can look towards Ryzen 5 1600 (3.2 / 3.6 GHz). They are also offered for about the same $ 170, but come with a base cooler, which will fit for the first time. True, the youngest AMD 6-core is desirable to tweak the operating frequencies, and in this case, the capabilities of the starting cooler may not be enough. And here we return again to the fact that the initial idea with the Ryzen 5 2600 is good in all respects. For the accelerated version Ryzen 5 2600X (3.6 / 4.2 GHz) they are asking for about $ 240, and this is already the territory of the base 8 cores Ryzen 7 1700 .

Intel chip shortage – A good opportunity for AMD to improve its position in the processor market. There are even suggestions that the company could take up to 30% of the desktop niche. However, these are overly optimistic forecasts. In some countries, the popularity of AMD processors has indeed increased significantly, especially in the “self-assembly” segment, when the processor is bought in retail. Often an example is given of the local success of a developer in the German market. However, on a global scale, the achievements of AMD are still more modest. In the second quarter of this year, the company occupied about 12.3% of the desktop systems market. The share continues to increase, but when the company manages to win 1–2% over the quarter, it is considered very successful.

Unlike the retail market, large OEM manufacturers do not yet feel a significant shortage of Intel processors, so they are not in a hurry to massively transfer their systems to AMD platform. Difficulties with the availability of Intel products will certainly play into the hands of the main competitor, but we are not talking about the cardinal limits of the market.

Now it’s a pleasure to choose a graphics card for optimal configurations. A rare case when similar solutions in their capabilities from AMD and NVIDIA are also very close in price. For $ 300 +, you can choose sound options like Radeon RX 580 8 GB and GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB . The main role in the selection is already played by the established preferences of the products of one or another manufacturer. Of course, the architectural features of both devices will be reflected in various games, but these are equivalent competitors. On the whole, video cards of this class offer good performance for Full HD mode with medium-high quality settings.

Soon we expect an update of the AMD lineup. The network is literally flooded with rumors about the future release of video cards based on chips Polaris 30 . Presumably no architectural revelations should be expected. The developer will translate the chips from 14- to 12-nanometer process technology, increasing the clock frequency. If the conditional Radeon RX 670/680 succeeds in increasing performance by 10-15%, simultaneously reducing power consumption and keeping the price, AMD solutions in the middle segment will become even more attractive.

In fact, the information about the heirs of GeForce GTX 1060 No, not to mention the timing of the emergence of new NVIDIA middle class. There are only suggestions that for this category the developer will not use RT-blocks and tensor cores, significantly increasing the area of ​​the crystal and the cost of manufacturing the GPU. In any case, with the conditional GTX / RTX 2060 NVIDIA is definitely not in a hurry. Therefore, those who wish to accelerate already now will have to look in the direction of GeForce GTX 1070 . It seems that some suppliers come to understand that for $ 500 + devices of this line can not be sold, because the cost of the basic models of this series now starts at $ 400. And this is a surcharge proportional to the increase in productivity. If the budget for the purchase of a video card exceeds $ 400, it makes sense to look at GeForce GTX 1070 Ti .

A few days ago, Intel held a Fall Desktop Launch event where Core 9th generation processors were presented. And not only Coffee Lake Refresh chips were shown, Basin Fall platform was also updated. For the LGA2066, the manufacturer offered a whole bunch of new CPUs.

For a progressive gaming system, the mass LGA1151 is more interesting, as well as the actual processors for it. As expected, initially Intel offers three top models. The flagship of the new line – Core i9-9900K – received 8 cores, has support for Hyper-Threading and L3 cache memory of 16 MB. Despite the increased number of cores, the manufacturer also uses an aggressive frequency formula – 3.6 / 5.0 GHz. Up to symbolic 5 GHz, the processor is accelerated with a load of 1-2 cores, while with a load on all blocks, the chip operates at an impressive 4.7 GHz. Despite the increase in cores, cache size and high frequencies, the chip remains within the 95 W thermal package. What is even somewhat surprising, given that for the manufacture of Coffee Lake Refresh repeatedly improved process technology of 14 ++ nm is used. Moreover, the new CPUs have a decent frequency potential.

Enthusiasts have already succeeded in using liquid nitrogen to cool the top model to 6.9 GHz with all active cores for cooling. At the same time, overclockers claim that the chips work at 5.3 GHz when using SVO and increasing the supply voltage to 1.4 V. There is an endless field for experiments. processor. Let not everything is so simple, but if the retail price is close to the voiced value, it will be an enviable candidate for a progressive configuration. However, about the same amount now costs the purchase of a 6-core Core i7-8700K. New chips at the start of sales will certainly be more expensive.

The refusal to support Hyper-Threading in Core i7 chips did not come as a surprise during the presentation of new processors. Morally, we were ready for this even after the specifications that leaked into the network, but the idea itself looks very controversial. Introduced Core i7-9700K also has 8 cores, but, unlike the flagship of the new line, the processor does not support HT, and therefore can simultaneously process up to 8 data streams. It will be interesting to compare the real possibilities of this chip with those for the Core i7-8700K with the functional formula 6/12. No doubt there will be various nuances. In the meantime, we can say that the Core i7-9700K has a frequency formula of 3.6 / 4.9 GHz, is equipped with 12 MB of L3 and also fits into the framework of 95 W TDP. The recommended price for this model is $ 373.

Another representative of the new processor wave – Core i5-9600K – might be interesting for an optimal gaming configuration. This 6-core chip with a frequency formula of 3.7 / 4.6 GHz, 9 MB L3 and 95 W TDP. Hyper-Threading technology was not originally used for desktop CPUs of the Core i5 line, therefore there are no functional losses. Чип с разблокированным множителем получил ценник $262.

Надеемся, рекомендации производителя не разгонять чипы с индексом «К» останутся в прошлом.

Новые процессоры начнут поступать в продажу с 19-го октября. На изобилие рассчитывать не стоит. Увы, но, судя по всему, дефицит будет ощущаться и на новые CPU, а потому стоимость процессоров на старте окажется заметно выше рекомендованной. Сроки официальных поставок чипов для Украины пока не подтверждены дистрибьюторами. Остается только следить за тем, когда интересующие позиции появятся в прайсах локальных интернет-магазинов. Пока этого не произошло, в составе прогрессивной конфигурации задержится Core i7-8700K (3,7/4,7 ГГц). Последний тоже неприятно добавил в цене. Казалось бы, что уже некуда, но теперь за топовый Coffee Lake придется заплатить порядка $470. Сэкономить на «неоверклокерской» модели не получится. Core i7-8700 (3,2/4,6 ГГц) сейчас стоит лишь немногим дешевле – порядка $440. Да, в комплекте с ним прилагается бюджетный кулер, но такая тривиальная болванка в составе мощной игровой системы будет смотреться нелепо, да и CPU она охлаждает посредственно.

Вместе с процессорами Coffee Lake Refresh производитель также представил новый топовый чипсет для платформы LGA1151 – Intel Z390. По части функциональности он минимально отличается от предшественника Intel Z370. Отметить можно разве что нативный контроллер USB 3.1 Gen2, а также интегрированную вычислительную логику Intel Wireless-AC для беспроводной связи.

Производители материнских плат основательно подготовились к выходу нового чипсета, приготовив по десятку-полтора разноплановых моделей на базе Intel Z390. Устройства уже появились в украинской рознице, ассортимент активно пополняется. На старте продаж цены ожидаемо завышены. Стоимость колеблется от $150 до $500+. Если вы планируете использовать плату с топовым PCH, можно начинать присматриваться. Вместе с тем напомним, что процессоры Core 9-го поколения будут работать на платах с любым чипсетом серии Intel 3xx, включая базовые Intel H310. Понадобится лишь обновить BIOS.

Модели на Intel Z390 конечно изначально будут поддерживать Coffee Lake Refresh. Производители сконфигурировали модели для различных задач. В тренде обилие USB 3.1 Gen2, RGB-подсветка и охлаждение для M.2-накопителей, топовые модели получают OLED-индикаторы, CNVi-модули для беспроводной связи и 5-гигабитные контроллеры Ethernet. Некоторые компании подготовили специальные модели для оверклокерских рекордов.

Если не пугает перспектива обновления прошивки для работы с Coffee Lake Refresh, можно без проблем выбирать из ранее представленных моделей материнских плат. Никаких принципиальных отличий с новинками у них нет, а цены уже устоялись. Для Core i7-8700K логично смотреть в сторону подходящих по функциональности устройств на Intel Z370. В этом случае нет ограничений в работе со скоростными комплектами памяти, да и с разгоном процессора на досуге получится поэкспериментировать.

Для прогрессивной игровой системы на базе платформы AMD лучшим выбором по-прежнему остается Ryzen 7 2700X (3,7/4,3 ГГц). Топовый 8-ядерник за прошедший месяц также подорожал примерно на $30, но на фоне нынешних цен на чипы Intel, даже старшая модель Pinnacle Ridge за $380 выглядит как возможность сэкономить. С доступностью Ryzen 7 2700 (3,2/4,1 ГГц) уже нет проблем, но небольшое отличие в розничной цене (~$350) подкупает раскошелиться на покупку флагмана. Все же он изначально хорошо форсирован производителем, да и комплектный кулер Wraith Prism выглядит привлекательнее базового охладителя Ryzen 7 2700.

Бесстрашным энтузиастам, готовым к оверклокерским экспериментам, могут подойти Ryzen 7 1700/1700Xкоторые сейчас предлагаются по очень привлекательной цене – ~$240. Чтобы приблизиться к показателям топовых моделей Pinnacle Ridge понадобится основательно форсировать CPU, а для этих целей важна плата с мощным VRM, а также воздушный суперкулер или СВО.

На выход чипов Coffee Lake Refresh основной конкурент будет реагировать лишь ценой. Да и то, в случае необходимости. Как видим, на фоне дефицита процессоров Intel, спрос на чипы AMD лишь увеличивается, позволяя поставщикам последних даже немного «пошалить», повышая цену на те CPU, с поставками которых нет проблем.

Графическую позицию в прогрессивной конфигурации мы все еще доверяем проверенным GeForce GTX 1080. За $600 можно выбрать хороший вариант и получать достойную производительность по сходной цене. GeForce GTX 1080 Ti из официальных поставок стоят более $800. Желающие разбираться в «оттенках серого» могут обзавестись топовой видеокартой на Pascal и за $700–750, но это определенные риски с последующей гарантией производителя.

Мы уже протестировали возможности GeForce RTX 2080рассмотрев оригинальную модель от ASUS, а также нативную GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition. Этого было достаточно, чтобы оценить потенциал новинки на базе графической архитектуры Turing. Если обобщать, то в актуальных играх модели на базе TU104 предлагают производительность уровня GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Часто с минимальным перевесом, но в целом показатели этих моделей очень близки. Имей они схожие ценники, предпочтение однозначно было бы на стороне новинки. Однако GeForce RTX 2080 стоит заметно дороже. Доступный в Украине ассортимент адаптеров этой серии все еще не очень велик, но первые модели появились по цене порядка $1000. Это можно было бы списать на стартовый ажиотаж, но рекомендованная стоимость устройств на базе TU104 для американского рынка составляет $699–799 без учета налогов, а для Украины цена эталонной RTX 2080 Founders Edition заявлена на уровне 26 990 грн (~$960). Базовые версии должны стоить дешевле, но ожидать значительного снижения цены нет причин.

Видеокарты с чипами на базе архитектуры Turing имеют скрытые резервы. GPU содержат аппаратные RT-блоки для обработки трассировки лучей и тензорные ядра для матричных вычислений, позволяющие использовать различные алгоритмы глубокого обучения. Световые приемы Ray Tracing приятно радуют глаз, а технология семплирования DLSS способна заметно увеличить производительность по сравнению с режимом полноэкранного сглаживания при лучшем качестве картинки. Однако наблюдать подобные эффекты пока приходится лишь на немногочисленных технодемках. Потенциал здесь есть и целый ряд разработчиков будут использовать ресурсы RTX в своих проектах. Впрочем, отдавая $1000, хотелось бы сразу видеть наглядные преимущества устройств новой серии, а не вкладывать такие деньги на перспективу.

Напомним, что у нас в запасе еще есть GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 ГБ. Ультимативная видеокарта для случаев, когда не хватает RTX 2080/ GTX 1080 Ti. Плюс 25–30% к производительности последних примерно за $1500. Бескомпромиссное решение для игр, если не смущает ценник.

Интересно было бы увидеть в деле GeForce RTX 2070. Видеокарты этой линейки представили одновременно с топовыми устройствами, однако сроки начала продаж изначально были сдвинуты на 17 октября. Рекомендованная цена младшей модели в $499–599 позволяет рассчитывать на возможность приобщиться к RTX без шоковой ценовой «терапии». Если производительность в актуальных играх будет аналогична таковой для GeForce GTX 1080, а расширенная функциональность достанется в качестве бонуса, это станет поводом отпустить устройства на базе GP104.

Ситуация с топовой графикой AMD откровенно не радует. Очень слабый ассортимент и зачастую неоправданные цены не добавляют привлекательности Radeon RX Vega 56/64. Хотя и здесь не обходится без редких, но приятных сюрпризов. Как вам возможность получить топовую модель всего за $530 (на момент подготовки материала)? Хотя это скорее исключение или если хотите, «пасхалка» для завсегдатаев соответствующих разделов на hotline.ua. Напомним, что в плане производительности Radeon RX Vega 64 достойно оппонирует GTX 1080, но за $800+ без очередного витка криптовалютного безумия такие устройства рискуют превратиться в недвижимость на складах дистрибьюторов.
