At the first opportunity we returned the chips Core i3-8100 to the basic gaming configurations. The catalyst here was some rollback in the cost of Intel processors in our market. No, they are still very expensive, but only for this reason, discarding the possibility of assembling a PC on this platform is not justified. So, the most affordable 4-core Coffee Lake chips can now be bought in Ukraine for $ 170, that is, $ 30–40 cheaper than a month and a half ago. At foreign sites, this model is offered for $ 130-140. If you are not embarrassed by the nuances with warranty service and even taking into account the cost of delivery, purchasing a processor will be cheaper, you can consider this option of additional savings.

Alas, there are no other ways yet. Rather, there is, but you are unlikely to like them. The most obvious one is the purchase of a processor from the Pentium Gold family. These will initially be frankly weak chips for the gaming system. Two computational cores are already not enough for heavy projects, despite their relatively high efficiency and support for Hyper-Threading multithreading technology.

Even with the use of a top-end video card, in some games it will be possible to observe very unpleasant jams. For example, in the online mode, Battlefield V in conjunction with the RTX 2080 system with Pentium Gold G5500 provided an average of quite comfortable 70 frames / c, but the minimum values ​​dropped to 30–35 frames / c, and in very rare situations (0.1%), the performance dropped to 10–15 frames / sec. At the same time, it was possible to observe a ragged frame-rate schedule, with particular complications during a serious boevka in the frame. Video card resources were used by 30–40%, while the processor was almost fully loaded. With a very big desire, of course, you can play in this mode, but you can hardly get pleasure from the game. With the Pentium Gold G5500 it is not in Assassin’s Creed Origins. Even with ultra-quality graphics settings, the processor is always 100% loaded, the video card is always 30–40% loaded. Of course, the GeForce RTX 2080 cannot be found in a system of this level, but these examples show that dual cores in gaming systems are no longer in place.

By increasing the budget for purchasing an Intel platform, we also increased the potential of AMD-based PCs, using basic games Platform Processor Ryzen 5 1400 . This 4-core model costs about $ 130, and its obvious advantage over Ryzen 3 line chips is support for SMT technology, which allows the CPU to simultaneously process up to eight data streams. For resource-intensive games, this will be a very good option. Unless it would be nice to tighten the clock frequencies, because the staff is relatively low – 3.2 / 3.4 GHz. Additional 400-500 MHz will be no problem at all if you have an unlocked multiplier and a motherboard based on AMD B350 / B450 chipset.

If saving on the processor on the Intel platform does not work out with serious consequences, then there are options with AMD. For the initial configuration, the 4-core Ryzen 3 1200 (3.1 / 3.4 GHz) for $ 95 is quite suitable, and the Ryzen 3 2200G is also attractive in its category. The latter is somewhat more expensive (~ $ 110), but judging by the popularity of this model, the presence of integrated graphics Vega 8 plays an important role when choosing a processor. Of course, for a gaming system, in any case, a discrete video card will be needed, but for universal PCs, the capabilities of such an “integration” are more than enough.

If you continue searching for suitable chips in the designated price category, you shouldn't lose sight of . For $ 150, it's just some kind of gift. A full-fledged 6-core 12-line processor with 16 MB L3, solder under the cover and a decent potential for overclocking from the starting 3.2 / 3.6 GHz. This chip allows you to completely close the issue with the lack of processor power for a gaming system of this class. And if the reluctance to bother with overclocking itself, at your service Ryzen 5 1600X with a frequency formula of 3.6 / 4.0 GHz, the purchase of which will cost $ 160. However, in addition, you will have to attend to buying a cooler – models with the “X” index from the Summit Ridge family are supplied without regular coolers.

As you can see, AMD here offers a lot of temptations. Adding $ 10–20–30, you can improve the processor position, and the difference in performance will not be symbolic. Here you should be guided by your possibilities. If the budget allows it, the money will not be spent in vain, if the allocated amounts are strictly limited, then the basic Ryzen 3 1200 will fit for a successful start.

Against this abundance of AMD processors in the $ 90–160 category, Intel’s price chips and in particular objectively overvalued Core i3-8100. The processor itself is good, but now 6-core Ryzen 5 1600 / 1600X are cheaper.

Turning to the choice of a video card, we note that it looks great now Radeon RX 570 4 GB . The market is literally flooded with a variety of models based on the Polaris 20 graphics processor. The most affordable versions are already offered from $ 175. Often these are different variations of miner adapters. Manufacturers need to somehow get rid of the deposits of these devices, and since there is no longer any demand from the pseudo-diggers, players have to be interested. Of course, the main lever here is price reduction, and the results of its use can be observed in the market. In some cases, manufacturers have to negotiate with distributors to extend the warranty period, pledging to expand technical support from 3 months to 12-24-36. Of course, in each case, when buying, you should clarify this point, but if a large well-known online platform promises an appropriate warranty period, then you shouldn't worry about the performance of a video card.

If the warranty issue is resolved, then from the nuances of miner versions you can also face a limited set of video outputs. In the saddest cases, the “video card” may not have them at all. Obviously, adapter manufacturers expected that the demand for such devices would be endless, and even a cheap saving on ports would make more money. Well, for their miscalculations, they have already paid and continue to do so. Devices without video outputs are now actually not on sale, although you should not lose vigilance. But there are more than enough versions of the Radeon RX 570/580 with only DVI-D on sale. At the same time, there are models with a full set of video outputs. Nominal versions for "diggers" can be deprived of protective metal plates and delivered in an antistatic bag without a box, but in terms of performance there will be no differences.

The Radeon RX 570 competition in the base game segment can make up … – Radeon RX 580 . Yes, that's so unexpected. Starting versions with 4 GB on board are offered for $ 200-230. Moreover, among the "single-port" miner versions there are even versions with 8 GB of memory for the same money. In principle, there is something to think about. Such a wide range of video cards at very pleasant prices now looks like a kind of compensation for lovers to play for all the suffering they had to endure during the mining boom.

If you look at NVIDIA solutions, you will have to choose only $ 180–200 to buy a video card. from the versions GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB . In performance, they are noticeably (20–40%) inferior to the Radeon RX 570 4 GB, although they also have their strengths. To get the same level of fps, you will need GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB but these video cards are more expensive – $ 230-270.

For basic gaming systems, we start recommending 240/256 GB solid state drives . Such entry-level SSDs are already available for $ 40. Doubled capacity will allow to use the drive not only for the operating system and a set of everyday applications, but also to install a couple of games. In addition, more capacious models are usually somewhat more productive than a smaller SSD. In our opinion, it is worth it to pay extra $ 10-15.

Against the background of continuing price ups and downs with chips Intel, AMD processors occupy CPU popularity rating in the relevant section hotline.ua. The maximum user interest is the 6-core model Ryzen 5 2600 (3.4 / 3.9 GHz), which costs about $ 200. A good choice for your money with predictable gaming performance and a decent reserve for multi-threaded applications. The older Ryzen 5 2600X (3.6 / 4.2 GHz) has a more aggressive frequency formula, eliminating the need to mess around with overclocking, although it costs more (~ $ 230).

If you belong to 12- Pinnacle Ridge nanometer chips are not critical, in the optimal gaming configuration, the already mentioned Ryzen 5 1600 / 1600X will also be appropriate. Yes, it is necessary to tinker with the acceleration for the younger model, but someone such experiments will only be a joy. The eldest was initially well-forced, but she would need to purchase a cooler separately. In general, there is something to think about and plan to build your system.

For an optimal Intel platform, the choice of processors is limited. In this class of systems, it is unlikely that someone will want to spend extra money, because the reasonable minimum here is still the same 6-core Core i5-8400 . Expensive, of course, but we will certainly not abandon the Intel platform in the middle gaming segment.

It will not prevent the sections with proposals Core i5-8500 / 8600 / 8600K to be more attentive. Given the relatively small variation in the cost of models of one line, there is a possibility, with a small surcharge, to get a faster processor. Recall that in order to overclock chips with the K index, you will need a motherboard on Intel Z370 / Z390 so if overclocking is not your story, then you can restrict yourself to chips with a blocked multiplier.

Deserves special mention Core i5-9600K (3.7 / 4.6 GHz), offered from $ 320. Although the incarnation of the Lake Creek Refresh chips Core i5 line did not receive significant changes, increased operating frequencies and solder under the hood can be convincing arguments for users with enthusiastic vein. The new Intel 6-cores often confidently take the 5 GHz bar during overclocking, which can justify additional CPU purchase costs. Eh, if such chips were released at the recommended price ($ 262).

Gone are the days when it was easy to decide on a video card for the optimal gaming configuration. Manufacturers have presented updated solutions, and the price drop on already proven devices in this segment does not facilitate the task, although it makes these efforts more pleasant.

If you look at the most popular positions, then at the time of preparing the material, the first five consist solely of Radeon RX 580 8 GB . The reasons for not guessing. As we already mentioned, these models are now offered at very attractive prices. And the interesting price tags are not only the Miner versions, but also the classic game models. If you omit the starting options (this is not necessary, of course), then you can pick up good versions for $ 250-270. Of course, there are still top versions for $ 350-400, but the Radeon RX 580 for that kind of money is now basically not interesting.

In early October, we assumed that the Radeon RX 670/680 conditional video cards should appear soon, but the company did not refer the new Polaris 30 chips to the next graphic generation. In addition, one new product was introduced, which was named Radeon RX 590 . Even before the announcement, it was certainly known that no functional improvements were foreseen. The graphics processor uses the same architecture, but the updated GPUs are manufactured according to the 12 nm standards, instead of the previous 14 nm in the Polaris 20. The improved technical process allowed us to increase the working frequency of the chip and this became the main way to increase the performance of the Radeon RX 590. The number of functional blocks, type and throughput The memory capacity remains the same as in the case of the Radeon RX 580. Unless the new version does not provide modifications with 4 GB of local RAM – only 8 GB versions.

The peak operating frequency of the GPU is increased from 1340 MHz to 1545 Hz (+ 15.3%). In general, the acceleration is not bad, because the graphics processor on the RX 580 often rested on overclocking at 1,450-1,500 MHz, but of course you don’t have to expect a serious performance boost. As shown by the first test results, in stock mode, the Radeon RX 590 improves the performance of the conditional predecessor by 10–12%. The frequency potential of the Polaris 30 is also slightly higher than that of 14-nanometer crystals. After overclocking, the chip operates at 1600+ MHz.

So, the Radeon RX 590 somewhat strengthens the position of AMD in the middle segment, although the special help of the Radeon RX 580 here does not require to compete with the GeForce GTX 1060. The success of the new product will determine its value. The recommended price for the base versions of the Radeon RX 590 8 GB – $ 279. Devices of the new line are just beginning to appear on our market, because it is too early to talk about retail price tags. Given the current situation with the RX 580, there is no point in seriously paying extra for + 10–12% performance. Tolerantly, if we are talking about a proportional increase in the price or so, but $ 400, even if for a top model, is an obvious brute force. Watching.

What will please NVIDIA? Californians stubbornly refuse to voice their plans on the next-generation discrete graphics in the middle segment. The stock GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB is still enough on the market, and so until it is possible to sell the devices that the miners did not manage to absorb, there is nothing fundamentally new about GeForce GTX / RTX 2060 . Well, almost nothing. Not so long ago, NVIDIA updated the GeForce GTX 1060 specification in working order, modestly indicating that now the video cards of this series can be equipped with both GDDR5 memory and GDDR5X which was previously used only for the top models of the Pascal family – GeForce GTX 1080 / 1080 Ti.

In practice, this means that the GeForce GTX 1060 will not only use GP106 GPUs typical for this line, but also GP104, which allow you to work with GDDR5X. These chips are not interchangeable. In fact, for devices with GDDR5X, the platform from the older GeForce GTX 1080 models is used, but the number of active GPU computing units will follow the usual formula for GTX 1060 – 1280/80/48 (CUDA / TMU / ROPs). It is surprising that the effective frequency of the GDDR5X memory corresponds to that of the GDDR5 – 8000 MHz, and in this case its bandwidth will not change either. Video card manufacturers are just beginning to announce their GeForce GTX 1060 models with GDDR5X, and only selected versions receive a higher memory frequency (up to 10 000 MHz). For most models, the standard frequency formula is used – 1506/8000 MHz, and in a similar form, their performance will be identical to that for regular versions of GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB GDDR5. Potentially, GDDR5X chips can work at higher effective frequencies, but surely not all video card owners will bother with independent memory overclocking.

What was it all about? Reflection on the launch of the Radeon RX 590 or the ability to use GP104 chips with a limited number of functioning units? Why did the developers need to use a more expensive platform for the GeForce GTX 1060, without having improved its technical characteristics? So far there are more questions than answers. But we will try to get them during practical tests of video cards with GDDR5X. Пока же на рынке доступны лишь классические версии GeForce GTX 1060 6 ГБ, которые гипотетически могут занять место в оптимальной игровой конфигурации. Впрочем, выдерживать ценовую конкуренцию с распродаваемыми Radeon RX 580 им ой как непросто. Стартовые версии GeForce GTX 1060 6 ГБ предлагаются от $280–290, тогда как топовые версии стоят $370–390. Предпочитающие решения NVIDIA наверняка найдут для себя аргументы, чтобы сделать выбор в пользу этой видеокарты, даже если придется заплатить больше, чем за схожее решение с чипом AMD.

Чтобы оценить текущие возможности игровой платформы среднего класса, совсем недавно мы провели практический тест связки Ryzen 5 2600X и Radeon RX 580 8 ГБ. Подобная комбинация выглядит весьма убедительно, позволяя в режиме Full HD использовать высокие настройки качества, а часто переходить и на ультра-пресеты графики. Всегда хочется большего, особенно, когда попадаешь на исключения, где такая связка уже не вытягивает стабильные 60 кадров/c. Конечно, можно поиграться с настройками и получить искомые значения, но для этого ли мы покупаем систему ценой более $1000?

При использовании комбинации Ryzen 5 2600X и Radeon RX 580 в играх ощущался запас ресурсов процессора, который можно было бы использовать в паре с более производительной видеокартой. Radeon RX 590 кардинально не повлияет на ситуацию, а старшие Radeon RX Vega 56 стоят уже более $500. Если все же хочется повысить fps с меньшими затратами, вполне можно смотреть в сторону GeForce GTX 1070 и GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. Особенно привлекательно выглядят сейчас устройства последней линейки. Самые доступные версии GTX 1070 Ti 8 ГБ предлагаются уже от $400 и это хорошая возможности ускорить игровой ПК. Вполне вероятно, что в ближайшее время для оптимальных конфигураций мы будем рекомендовать именно GeForce GTX 1070/1070 Ti. Хотя, конечно, имея возможность получить Radeon RX 580 8 ГБ за $230+ почти вдвое увеличивать бюджет на покупку видеокарты будет непросто. Впрочем, менее затратных способов увеличить игровую производительность пока нет.

Считая деньги и при выборе прогрессивной конфигурации, рекомендуем использовать для платформы на Intel процессоры Core i7-8700Kкоторые сейчас в Украине стоят порядка $430. Очевидной альтернативой здесь становятся уже доступные в продаже Core i7-9700K. Согласно многочисленных тестам, 8-ядерный чип дает чуть большую производительность в играх, но отключение технологии Hyper-Threading не пошло ему на пользу в многопоточных приложениях, где Core i7-8700K с функциональной формулой 6/12 нередко имеет преимущество. Core i7-9700K стоит дороже на $100–120, хотя основным сдерживающим фактором субъективно остается именно отказ от HT. 8/8 не всегда лучше 6/12.

Впрочем, если покупка процессора за $550 укладывается в ваш бюджет, жалеть о выборе точно не придется. На стороне Core i7-9700K также остаются повышенные штатные частоты, припой под крышкой, 8 полноценных ядер и увеличенный кеш L3.

Если финансовый вопрос не сдерживает, то лучшим выбором конечно будет Core i9-9900K. Топовый 8-ядерник с поддержкой Hyper-Threading и 16 МБ L3. Модель отлично себя показывает как в играх, так и многопоточных приложениях, потому, если $670 на покупку CPU – не проблема, то никаких других противопоказаний быть не может. Ну, конечно, если не смущает разница с рекомендованными за этот чип $488 в прайсе производителя.

На фоне подобных трат на чипы Intel точно не должна смущать цена в $330 на топовый 8-ядерный Ryzen 7 2700X. Процессор AMD не удивит, но и не подкачает в играх, а вот в многопоточных задачах с лихвой отработает потраченные деньги. Для бережливых пользователей, готовых к частотным экспериментам, еще доступны Ryzen 7 1700 за $220. В случае с Ryzen 7 2700X уже все разогнано до нас, это вариант для тех, кому хочется поиграть, а не играться с частотами.

Что касается дискретной графики, то попасть в прогрессивные игровые конфигурации имеют шансы сразу несколько видеокарт. Если говорить о решениях NVIDIA, то это конечно проверенные GeForce GTX 1080которые можно найти в продаже за $550–600.

Несмотря на в общем холодный пользовательский прием адаптеров серии GeForce RTX, потенциально неплохо здесь смотрится младшая модель линейки – GeForce RTX 2070. По производительности она уверенно тягается с GTX 1080, часто имея определенный перевес, но иногда и минимально уступая решению Pascal. В то же время RTX 2070 получила RT-ядра и тензорные вычислители, полезность которых может со временем стать более очевидной. Стоимость таких адаптеров стартует от $600, потому речь о значительной переплате уже не идет. Конечно, если не пытаться сравнивать цены с таковыми для устройств, приобретенных по сходной цене на вторичном рынке.

Очень привлекательно выглядит покупка GeForce GTX 1080 Ti за $750, особенно при использовании мониторов с разрешением выше 1920×1080. В продаже хватает и более доступных вариантов, но сейчас этот рынок буквально наводнен сомнительными предложениями – восстановленными устройствами и моделями из откровенно «серых» поставок с ограниченной гарантией от продавца. Соблазн сэкономить здесь очень велик, но топовые видеокарты в игровых системах остаются одними из наиболее проблемных устройств, потому не хочется рисковать значительными суммами. Рынок б/у завален GTX 1080 Ti, но шансы получить видеокарту с сюрпризами здесь очень велики. Было бы интересно увидеть в комментариях истории и впечатления людей, выбиравших и недавно купивших на вторичке GTX 1080/1080 Ti.

Мы также не отбрасываем вариант с Radeon RX Vega 64 за $550. Да, пусть за такие деньги предлагается всего одна модель, и даже если это попытка какого-то дистрибьютора избавиться от залежей, больше платить за топовые решения AMD сейчас нет смысла.

Владельцам 4К-экранов, желающим играть с максимальным качеством графики, выбирать особо не приходится. С такой задачей справляется только GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 ГБда и то, с некоторыми оговорками. Мы проверяли. Конечно, непросто смириться с тем, что за прирост производительности в 30–40% нужно удвоить бюджет на покупку видеокарты (от $1350), но если сожалений о потраченных деньгах нет, в остальном никаких претензий к RTX 2080 Ti. Чтобы морально проще было подготовиться к затратной покупке, NVIDIA приготовила подарок будущим владельцам видеокарт серий GeForce RTX 2070/2080/2080 Ti – игру Battlefield V. Это первый проект с поддержкой технологии трассировки лучей. Реализация еще требует доработки, но местами уже выглядит весьма интересно. Акция NVIDIA актуальна и для Украины, однако в нашей стране работает только у одного партнера.
