The annual Taiwan exhibition Computex has traditionally become a platform for the announcement of new IT products, demonstration of original concepts and devices that in local markets often begin to appear only closer to the beginning of the next training season. The most large-scale exposition is already routinely unfolded by ASUS. To the home event, the producer is prepared very scrupulously and responsibly, bringing to the general review not only the finished products, but also the most daring experiments of the developers. On many of the company's iconic innovations on the Computex 2018, we've already talked in more detail, now we'll go through the stands in the express mode, focusing on the devices that fall into the frame.
a whole line of new all-in-one monoblock systems. The most interesting exhibit is ASUS Zen AiO 27 (Z272) .
Model with 27-inch screen with frameless design. There are two versions of the display with a resolution of 4K and Full HD. Declared color coverage in 100% sRGB suggests that the monoblock uses an IPS panel. The system components are housed in a relatively massive stand. Of curious features – wireless charging standard Qi power of 7.5 watts. To recharge the smartphone, it's enough to put it on the case of a monoblock.
ASUS Zen AiO 27 (Z272) can be equipped with economical versions of desktop 6-core processors Core i7-8700T / Core i5-8400T with thermal 35 W package. Graphics – GeForce GTX 1050 4 GB, up to 32 GB of DDR4-2666 memory and hybrid bundles of drives, in which, in addition to SSD, Intel Optane can also be used. The system offers a Thunderbolt 3 port for connecting high-speed peripherals.
ASUS Vivo AiO 27 (V272) ASUS Vivo AiO 24 (V241) and models were also presented at the exhibition stands ] ASUS Vivo AiO 22 (V222) . Monoblocks have more familiar classic shapes with very thin screen frames (NanoEdge). The 27- and 21.5-inch models were first shown at the January 2010 CES 2018. ASUS Vivo AiO 24 (V241) was introduced last year, but the manufacturer also upgraded this version.
Economical mobile Intel Core processors of the 8th generation U-series (up to 15 W) are used for all systems. Monoblocks are equipped with screens with a resolution of Full HD, as well as discrete graphics of the primary class. For V272 GeForce MX150 is provided, V241 is satisfied with GeForce 930MX, and V222 will get GeForce MX110 (it is also 920MX). The amount of RAM is 8-16 GB, the drive configurations can include hard disks, SSDs or hybrid bundles.
In the format of classic desktops, the first violin on ASUS stands was ROG HURACAN (G21) . An original console-like PC with a foldable side wall with a magnetic clip to improve cooling of components.
In the top configuration, the system can be equipped with a Core i7-8700 processor, a GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card and 32 GB of RAM. The motherboard based on Intel H370 allows you to connect high-speed drives M.2 NVMe, and in the case is provided for one seat for 2.5 "and 3.5" SATA devices.
, it was somewhat unexpected to see an optical drive in this class of system, but he also found a place in the 13-liter ROG HURACAN (G21). The gaming platform uses very productive components, therefore for their power supply a source of appropriate power is needed. For a PC, a pair of external PSUs of 180 watts each are provided, while for a configuration with the GTX 1080 a 180 + 230 W block bundle will be used.
The Taiwanese manufacturer also showed a game desktop system on the Computex 2018 ASUS TUF GAMING FX10CP . This is the first full-format desktop, presented in the framework of the TUF line. The processor position is occupied by 6-core Core i7-8700 or Core i5-8400, as for graphics, then at the start there are solutions for the initial game level – GeForce GTX 1050 or GT 1030. RAM – up to 32 GB DDR4-2666. The drives are a 1 TB hard drive or a bunch with 128-512 GB SATA SSD. Optional PCs will be shipped with a Wi-Fi 802.11ac wireless module. Optical drive proved to be an indispensable element of the system, although there is a feeling that in 2018 this device was used by developers as an element of external decor.
The timeless classics always remain relevant, and the actual retail price will determine the actual interest in the system.
At the company's demonstration racks it was possible to notice the desktop, assembled on the basis of the motherboard [ASUSTUFX470-PLUSGAMING in the stylized case for the devices of the TUF line from Cooler Master. The exhibition exhibit was interesting in that the processor AMD Ryzen 5 2400GE presented at the end of April was used for it. This is an economical version of the desktop APU with integrated Vega 11 graphics. Instead of a 65 Watt thermal package for Raven Ridge chips, this model is satisfied with a 35 W TDP. Similar versions are still more likely to be used with compact format platforms, whereas in a full-sized case with a liquid cooling system and a 750W power supply, such a set looks unnatural. But, let's make a discount on the demonstration setting.
A compact "barrel of joy" is prepared by the producer for professionals working with graphics and video. The system ASUS Mini PC ProArt PA90 with the original design of the case will be equipped with Intel Core 8th generation processors, NVIDIA Quadro graphics, and also support Intel Optane. ASUS does not disclose detailed specifications yet, focusing on the unusual cylindrical shape of the case and an efficient quiet cooling system.
Computex 2018 also included a powerful power supply for desktop systems – ASUS ROG THOR . The 1200 Watt PSU complies with the 80 Plus Platinum standard, supports the customizable AURA Sync RGB backlight and is equipped with an OLED screen showing the current power consumption of the system.
Compliance with the "platinum" specification indicates a high efficiency of the unit. In particular, at loads corresponding to 20/50/100% of the total power, the efficiency of the PSU should exceed 90/92/89%.
The unit has a good element base with Japanese tanks and massive finned radiators. For blowing, a 135 mm fan with Wing-Blade blades is provided to increase airflow. With minimal load, the fan stops and the unit runs silently.
Monitoring the actual power consumption of the PC is a useful option, especially for those who are used to experimenting with their system. The screen is located on the side panel of the unit, therefore the values will always be clearly visible if a case with a transparent wall is used.
Of course ASUS ROG THOR is relevant primarily for productive configurations with several graphics cards, but still very large power reserve. Of the pleasant features, a 10-year manufacturer's warranty can be noted, but the estimated price of the new PSU is not particularly disclosed.
Both key developers of the GPU for gaming graphics cards – NVIDIA and AMD – have not yet presented next generation GPUs. Adapter manufacturers did not focus on devices of this category, although, if you want to look at the age-related video cards, they could be found on the stands.
Demo zones have traditionally been covered with motherboards, though quite fresh new products, shown for the first time, yet were not so much is not a season. Shortly before the beginning of the Computex 2018 exhibition, AMD introduced an updated chipset AMD B450 for the Socket AM4 platform. Differences from the predecessor AMD B350 are not so many. Slightly better economy, support for advanced auto-acceleration XFR2 Enhanced and technology of hybrid bundles of StoreMI drives. A particularly useful option is guaranteed work with Ryzen chips of the 2nd generation without flashing BIOS.
The key manufacturers of motherboards managed to prepare their novelties for AMD B450. ASUS introduced the models PRIME B450-PLUS and PRIME B450M-A . Within the limits of the game line appeared boards ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING and compact ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING which, alas, did not hit our lens.
19659005] At the same time, it was difficult not to notice a string of diverse motherboards of the TUF Gaming line. "Military" subjects are increasingly intertwined with the game art, because this combination does not cause unnecessary questions. The backbone of the series consists of running models of the middle class based on popular chipsets.
In passing, we note that manufacturers of various related components (cooling systems, memory, power supplies, enclosures) offer their variants of devices stylized as TUF for assembly thematic PCs.
Attentive readers are sure to pay attention to the stickers with the "Support Intel Core i7-8086K" signatures next to the motherboards for LGA1151. In this way, the manufacturers decided to additionally designate the appearance of a special CPU.
The six-core Core i7-8086K was introduced by Intel on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the 8086 processor. The chip functions in no way different from the top model Core i7-8700K (3.7 / 4.7 GHz, $ 359), except for a more aggressive frequency formula. For a signed CPU, a combination of 4.0 / 5.0 GHz is used. Unlocked multiplier allows you to not limit yourself to even such values. Apparently, good crystals with high frequency potential are used for jubilee chips, but what can be said for sure is the increased cost. Core i7-8086K is estimated by the manufacturer at $ 425. The new limited model is released in a limited edition, with 8,086 copies being played by lottery participants from a very limited number of countries. Alas, enthusiasts from Ukraine will not have to rely on luck, but on their wallet.
Peripherals and accessories
Computex 2018 has become a platform for launching a whole set of gaming peripherals from ASUS. In particular, the manufacturer here presented the mouse ASUS ROG Gladius II Wireless . The wire version after the test as a whole left a good impression, and the wireless option may appeal to those who are hampered by any mechanical limiters.
Novelty allows you to use both a 2.4 GHz radio interface with an additional USB receiver and Bluetooth. In addition, it is possible to put the mouse on the wire.
The wireless version uses an optical sensor with a maximum resolution of 16,000 dpi. Curiously, even when working on battery, you can adjust RGB-backlight and use AURA Sync synchronization. The truth remains open the question of the autonomy of the mouse in this mode. The cost of the novelty was not indicated, but if you consider that the classic model in retail is offered for about $ 95, the wireless version will certainly be more expensive.
The photos show that ASUS ROG Gladius II Wireless is quite comfortable on the original playing surface. The rug ASUS ROG Balteus Qi is another novelty of the June Computex 2018. At RGB-illumination around the perimeter of the site (370 × 320 mm) we will not even focus attention (15 diodes, AURA Sync). The massive surface is interesting by the presence of an area for wireless charging of devices that support the Qi standard. For the time of the zealous "work session" for the gaming PC, the smartphone can be located in the upper right corner of the site, where the corresponding transmitter is located. Power charge is not indicated, but if you consider that the mat is connected to the system via USB 2.0, then surely it comes to a maximum of 5 watts. Alas, it is not possible to recharge the ROG Gladius II Wireless in the same way, and the idea is good.
The ROG series of devices has also been supplemented with an external hard drive ROG FX HDD . A kind of drive "on the style" in an anodized aluminum case with chopped faces and polished surfaces. The original feature of the presented model is an additional RGB-illumination of a special pattern with the possibility of synchronizing AURA Sync. The manufacturer emphasizes that this is the world's first external storage with such functionality. He is still the only one. Quite an option for those who purposely collect "full set" in the style of ROG.
To connect the 2.5-inch HDD uses USB 3.1 Gen1 (USB 3.0), announced the support for AES 256-bit encryption, the bundle will offer software to create backup copies of data. One can only add that the models of 1 TB and 2 TB (EHD-A1T / EHD-A2T) will be available in the ROG FX HDD lineup.
The militant ASUS TUF GAMING series also brought fresh peripherals. The manufacturer proposed a full-size keyboard ASUS TUF GAMING K5 with membrane-type keys Mech-brane, which feel reminiscent of the work of "mechanics". The model has protection against spilled liquids (up to 60 ml), works simultaneously with 24 buttons and is equipped with a backlight with five adjustable zones. Note that the left upper corner displays a block of buttons for adjusting the volume and activating the backlight. The model is very large due to the integrated wrist rest, which reduces the load during long game sessions.
The developers offer the mouse for the keyboard ASUS TUF GAMING M5 . A symmetrical wired model equipped with an optical sensor Pixart PAW3327 with a resolution of up to 6200 dpi. Switches OMRON for 50 million clicks, customizable backlight, built-in memory for storing profiles and that's it. It looks good, for owners of palms of medium size, it may well be to their liking and lie down in the hand.
For the ear-holder, the manufacturer offers a headset ASUS TUF GAMING H5 with 50 mm ASUS Essence radiators, steel adjustable headband, (7.1).
Finishing with the devices of the TUF GAMING line, we note the first gaming notebook of the series – ASUS TUF GAMING FX504 . For this model, the new Core i5 / i7 chips of the 8th generation of the H-series are already in use. Graphics in the range – GeForce GTX 1050 / 1050Ti / 1060, up to 32 GB of RAM DDR4-2666 (2 × SO-DIMM) and various bundles of drives. From the ports, we note a pair of USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, a full-sized HDMI output and an Ethernet socket.
The screen resolution is Full HD, and different matrixes can be used. In the top version, the panel offers a coverage of 94% NTSC, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a response of 3 ms.
ASUS ZenPower Pro PD . According to the manufacturer, this is the lightest and compact model that supports fast charging of devices according to Power Delivery 3.0. The built-in battery has a capacity of 13,600 mAh (14.4 V), and the maximum power transfer power for fast charging can be up to 45 watts. The Type-C port offers 5V / 3A, 9V / 3A, 15V / 3A, 20V / 2,25A modes. Through the Type-A port the recoil is only in 5V / 2.4A mode. The charging time of the battery itself depends on the source – from 4.5 hours at 20V / 1.5A, to 8 hours at 5V / 2A.
ASUS ZenPower Pro PD weighs 315 grams. Of the additional options, we note the presence of the LED, and the manufacturer assures that the battery can work up to 5 days in full charge mode.
The idea of connecting powerful desktop graphics cards to compact notebooks is being met by more and more users. In cooperation with InWin, ASUS developers prepared an external module of ASUS XG Station Pro. The block in the aluminum case is relatively compact, while maintaining the style and will not look like a foreign body, even in the office entourage. The module allows the use of full-sized video cards equipped with a 2.5-slot cooling system. For additional cooling of the adapter, a pair of 120mm fans is provided inside, and an external 330W power supply is used for power supply.
The ASUS XG Station Pro requires a system with a full Thunderbolt 3 port. This is one of the limitations of the wide distribution of such devices. To synchronize data with an external GPU, you need a high bandwidth interface with low latency, so, alas, without Thunderbolt, there is nothing to do here.
Getting acquainted with the manufacturer's display innovations, we somehow overlooked an interesting accessory with the simple name Bezel-Free Kit . These are special adapters, allowing you to hide the joints between screens in configurations with multiple monitors. The devices are original lenses made of transparent thermoplastic (polymethylmethacrylate). To get the best quality picture, it is important to maintain the dimensions and the angle of the interfaces of the screens, and also take into account the thickness of the frames of the monitors used. For this reason, the Bezel-Free Kit is not yet a universal device, the proposed modifications will have a list of supported screens.
Evaluating the range of ASUS devices offered at the show, it is obvious that the manufacturer places a great emphasis on gaming systems and peripherals. This segment still remains one of the most dynamically developing, and therefore a priority for many PC market participants. The Taiwanese company has something to offer, and the manufacturer does not hesitate in special cases to seek help from specialized equipment manufacturers and the joint work gives good results. ASUS расширяет ассортимент устройств, осваивая новые для себя сегменты. Здоровая конкуренция еще никому не мешала, потому ожидаем представленные новинки для тестов, чтобы поделиться уже практическим опытом их использования.
