quick note before the weekend

Last night I took the whole family to see the Lowell Spinners - a minor league baseball team.  It was a lot more fun than I expected it to be!  The place was clean.  Most of the people there were families.  I don’t think I heard a single curse-word the whole time I was there.  There were a number of things for the kids to do if they got bored with watching the game.  In between each inning they would have the goofiest, campiest events.  There was a

  • sub-sandwich eating contest.
  • two people in sumo wrestler getups wrestling each other
  • two mascots raced an eight-year-old child around the bases
  • t-shirt give-aways

They gave away free baseballs before the game.  We were a little too late to receive one.  Science Diet was there giving away free 11lb bags of dog food.  Why?  Dunno.  I never could figure out the connection between dog-food and baseball.  Nonetheless they gave me five bags of the stuff!  Each of the younger kids got a foam finger.  Stupid useless things will clutter up the house for the next 10 years I am sure.

It was relaxed and goofy.  Nobody I saw really cared much about the game, but it was a nice diversion.  The tickets were $7. The premium box-seats were still only $8.

The kids all loved it.  Even Liz liked it.  So I think we’ll go back sometime.

This weekend?  I don’t have any plans.  I think it will be nice to have a little quiet time.  I’ll probably work with the dogs some.  Maybe take the kids to a proper swimming pool.  The beach?  mmm… maybe.  I’m not a big fan of the beach.  I’ve also been meaning to go to the Ipswich River Conservancy in Topsfield.  But the weather is supposed to be pretty hot.

So staying inside and reading is looking pretty good.
