Who has plans for the Superbowl?

who-has-plans-for-the-superbowl

We’re not doing anything special. Traditionally I stay home and watch the game from start to finish. The kids don’t watch the game but they’re good enough to let me and Liz watch it without too much interruption. We usually gather together some of our favorite junk food snacks.

Pigs-in-a-blanket are a particular favorite. I’m a sucker for these. I was just reading someone’s recipe for North Carolina Buffalo Wings and I was thinking about making a batch of them. I love anything with cilantro so maybe I can find something with cilantro in it too. The thing is, that if I make, for example, 20 wings I find that nobody else is interested in them and I can only eat (at most) 10. Well, maybe I can save them for snacks during the week.

I like seafood – I wonder what I can throw on the grill that would be good to gnosh on during the game. That’s what make squid so good for this sort of thing. I’m not deep-frying anything, though, that’s for sure. Any suggestions?

Saturday – I think it will be quiet. I need to get signed up for the gym again – maybe I can do that this evening. I’ve been trying to cut down on my food this week to lose a few pounds, but after a week of trying I weigh the same thing as I did two weeks ago!! So I figure I need to increase my metabolism and start burning more calories while I sit still in my chair at work.

I have a plan for an easy electronics thing! See, I have a nut under the sink that is essentially round and soft, so I have a lot of trouble tightening it. Consequently, it sometimes loosens itself, depending on how much the sprayer gets used. And when it loosens it sprays water all over the cabinet under the sink. A couple of times its gotten REALLY soaked because we only noticed it when it made a puddle on the floor in front of the sink.

I read where someone used a smoke detector and added a couple of wires to complete a circuit (where the test button used to be). When the two wires are wet enough to complete a circuit the smoke detector goes off. PERFECT!

I was also reading about this thing called Nabaztag. It’s a white plastic rabbit-thing. It has a wireless connection to the internet and can physically represent information that’s available from the net. By that, I mean it can tell you the weather, or its ears can spin around if your stocks tank. It can speak movie times or announce that you’ve received mail. There’s an API available that will allow people to connect their own services to Nabaztag. I read where someone set it up so whenever anyone visited his “house” in the game Second Life, he would get notified by Nabaztag.

What is interesting to me is the physical representation of web-based content. Its taking something virtual and making it real. There are some other things that are similar, like this and this, but I don’t think they have API’s that allow anyone (with some mad skillz) to link it to their own purposes.

What got me thinking along these lines was the possibility of hooking my water-alarm (nee smoke detector) to a wireless interface and being able to send email to myself. That sure would be handy!

Will I actually get around to doing anything about any of this? Doubtful. If I can get to the gym a few days a week, I will be happy.
