Hello monday morning

So monday morning is right around the corner.  The weekend was quiet.  The kids went back to start their “spring” semester of swim lessons.  The three oldest are in the higher level, which is nice.  I was feeling sick all weekend - something in the “flu” neighborhood.    I feel better now, but Saturday was a waste.   I wound up watching Spaceballs with the boys - which they LOVED!  I need to find more stuff like this for them.

We ran some errands and I fixed some stuff around the house.  It was very domestic and quiet.

Tomorrow (Monday) Verizon is supposed to come and install their FiOS TV.  Its going to be 200 channels of digital fabulousness.  Liz is looking forward to to BBC America.  I’m looking forward to all the high definition and digital channels.  They’re going to send us a free 19″ LCD High Def TV in a couple of months, too.  Very happy about that.

The recording from Verizon says that the tech will be here between 8am and 5pm and stay between 4 and 6 hours.  Most of this guy’s work is already done so I don’t think he’ll be here that long.  In any case, I will be working from home tomorrow, as much as I’m able.  My network connection will be problematic for a while.

More to follow.

How far I have come

I posted a message back in October of 2004 that discussed the progress I had made on building a simple robot that follows a line on the floor.  Its a very simple machine.

Stupid robot still isn’t done.  in fact, I think I stalled shortly after that post two and a half years ago.  I still have all the parts.  I bet they still work.  Maybe I will go back and see if I can pick up where I left off.

Spamalot: I think I grew up

Spamalot went fine.  Although I was looking forward to seeing the classic bits on the stage and had my doubts about the new additions, it turns out that I was somewhat disappointed with the classic sketches that are so well known.  The new songs were really very good and one or two (You Won’t Succeed On Broadway) had me rolling in the aisles.

All in all, I think it helps to be 15 years old to appreciate monty python.  I didn’t find it nearly as funny as I had 20 years ago.  Maybe it had lost its naughty edge.  I don’t know why.  I mean, it was fun and everything, but it wasn’t groundbreaking, you know?

We sat WAY at the back.  In fact, the last section was filled with young people aged 14 - 25 or so.  As the lights started to go down the back section emptied as kids flooded closer to the edge of the balcony to get one of the many unsold seats.  The ushers got very upset and were sending people back to their seats, but it was like stopping a flood with a screen door.  For every pimply faced kid they sent back 10 more slipped through.

Me and the boys stayed in our seats though.  If it had been just me I would have wandered down.  But I thought it was one of those moments where the boys would look at me to see if it was ok to get closer.  I decided I that it was more important for them to see a good example than to get 50′ closer.

We were home by about 10:30pm and the boys had a great time.

Embarrassing song from the 80’s

That is, there’s a song that I would normally avoid admitting that i like from the 80’s.

“We got the beat” by the GoGo’s

I’ve always liked the song AND the band!

There, I’ve said it.

My name is Rob and I like the GoGo’s and I’m not ashamed of my GoGo-Love.

Today’s really big show

Yes, its Spamalot.  I am taking my boys to see the Broadway show that has come to Boston for a one week run.  Maybe its a month.

I was thinking last night about how the last show I went to see in Boston, Liz and I dressed up a little and we took the subway in and had a fine time and took the subway home.  Somehow it feels strange to get dressed up and go to a beautifully ornate theater and be all classy for a couple of hours and then get back in the subway.

I think that with the boys it will be fun to take the subway in to a Monty Python show and then come home on it.  The show starts at 7:30pm so I guess it will go until 9:30pm or 10pm.  Sure, they’ll have trouble getting up for school tomorrow but I think they’ll have a GREAT time tonight.  And I think that’s worth it.  They normally go to bed at 8:30pm (girls at 8pm) but they don’t normally have any trouble staying up later when they want to.

Work: no change.  Status quo remains fiercely entrenched.

I may go to Dallas for a week in March for some training.

No word yet on the promotion.  Unbelievable, isn’t it?  Its very frustrating for me to continue to receive no word.  I know that I am still in the running and that I am the only one still in the running.  I don’t know how long they intend to continue this process, but I wish they would wrap it up sooner rather than later.
