Update after the holidays

So thanksgiving weekend has come and gone.  We had relatives from south Jersey make the trek up here and that was good.  We always enjoy spending time with them.  This time, though practically everyone was sick at one time or another.

Me?  I think I have come down with pneumonia or some other kind of stubborn respiratory bug.  It’s a vicious cough that won’t go away.  Its making me really tired so I was kind of lethargic when our visitors were here.  I felt bad that I couldn’t show them a better time.

On the up-side Liz decided to get me a new flat-screen plasma TV!  Although I tried to get a 42” Sharp Aquos for half-off at circuit city, I was too slow, I guess.  My brother-in-law came with me at 4:30am to get in line, but there were still maybe 300 people ahead of us.  By 6am we found out that they were sold out so we ran another errand across the street at Target and then went home where I went back to bed.

Later the ladies (including chloe) went to Sephora, a make-up store in Burlington while me and my brother-in-law tried to entertain ourselves at Newbury Comics, FYE, the Sony Store and the Apple Store.  We eventually found ourselves in Sears where they tried hard to sell me a 42” plasma from LG.  I was a little leery about the LG because it didn’t seem as nice as the Panasonic next to it.  They spent a long time giving me the hard sell because I didn’t want to spend the extra money on the Panasonic.  Eventually I relented and said I would buy the LG.  Then they apologized and told me they were completely out of stock.  So I convinced them to drop the price on the Panasonic to the same price as the LG so I could buy it.  And the went for it!  I got it for a steal!  I was/am thrilled with it.  We took it home that day and set it up right away.  I loved watching the football game on it last night.  I confess that it kind of dominates my den, but it’s a good thing its beautiful!

The weather was good all weekend, which, because we didn’t hardly leave the house, didn’t turn out to matter much.  Our guests included two teenagers – a 16 year old boy and a 14 year old girl.  What did they have to do at our house for three and a half days?  We were going to give our own kids a Wii for xmas, but we decided to get it out early so that our guests wouldn’t be bored out of their skulls.  The kids (ours and theirs) OWNED the den all weekend.  One was loading up her MP3 player while another was playing Rayman on the Wii and another was playing Team Fortress 2 on my computer.  It was totally Kidville down there.  So it wasn’t until Sunday that I got a chance to watch my new TV.

I also spent some time trying to recover a database at work and it took me until Sunday afternoon to finally get the thing operational.

On Sunday I took Gabe to a cub scout event where they cleaned up the parking lot of the church where they meet.  He was pretty great there.  Other kids sat on the sidelines and played with each other while the dad’s did the heavy lifting.  Gabriel was right there with a broom or a rake and he put in a good effort.  I was proud of him.

So, now I am back at work – a doctor’s appointment scheduled for 1pm.  Its only 9:20am and I think I need a nap.  The family seems to be feeling better in time to get back to school, so I guess all’s well that ends well.
