Weekend will be chilly with a lot of work

So I recently purchased a copy of Avid’s Xpress Pro HD.  I have had time to install it and some of the accompanying software, but not all.  And I certainly haven’t had time to actually edit any videos.  In fact, I haven’t even fired up the program yet!

My plan for taking the software on a test run is to take my video camera to several cub scout events and then put together a montage of video clips showing life in Pack 615’s Den 3.  That will actually take quite a while – it will take me several months to put together all the video that will be necessary I think.  I was thinking I might do something similar for the boy scout troop, but somehow I don’t think the scouts particularly want to be filmed.  They’re not doing anything wrong, they’re just older and … goofier as 13 year old boys tend to be.

Speaking of whom, they’re scheduled to go camping this weekend.  The weather is predicted to be quite chilly.  Lows should be around 30 degrees and the highs won’t get in to the 40’s.  They’re going to be practicing standard scout-skills like orienteering and outdoor cooking and whatnot..  Ben has spent several nights out in cold like that and it hasn’t seemed to bother him too much.

I won’t be able to join him because my wife’s sister is driving her aunt up here for the weekend.  I have to give my sister-in-law credit: it is very generous to make a long trip like that.  In fact, she will be making a very similar trip BACK up here the following week for Thanksgiving.  I should do something nice for her while she’s up here.  I don’t know what it would be, so don’t hold me to it.  But I should get her some kind of gift for going to that kind of trouble.  Its very kind of her.

The weekend is looking busy.  Tonight I have to spend the evening helping my old employer with a disaster recovery effort.  So I don’t know how much time I will get to spend with our new visitors.

At work we’re also going through the biggest upgrade they’ve seen here in years.  So on Saturday morning I will:

  • drop Ben off for his scout trip at 7:30am
  • take Gabe and Chloe and Grace to swimming from 8am to 9am
  • take the same kids to McDonald’s for breakfast
  • return the same kids to home
  • hightail it up to the New Hampshire border to spend the morning upgrading application servers.
  • When that’s done I will come home and hopefully spend the afternoon and evening visiting with our guest
  • Here’s a map of the trip.  Its not a long trip exactly, just busy

On Sunday I have to go back to work around noon I think to help out with the post upgrade efforts.  I don’t know how long that will go – all afternoon I suppose.  At 10:00am I have to pick up Ben from his camping trip and bring him home.

So this weekend will be kind of a drag – a lot of work and a lot of not being home to spend time with the long-lost-relative.  I regret that but there’s no getting out of it.

*sigh*
