A new lesson
Its very sad. I had forgotten a lesson I learned a long time ago. The lesson is to never give someone a task to perform and just assume it will be done by the dates required with the parameters given.
THREE weeks ago I told someone that in order for people to connect to SAP on “go-live” day they would need to have some of their software updated. I told him how it was to be updated and the date by which it needed to be done.
I failed to apply my lessons and didn’t follow up with him. Now people can’t login because they don’t have the updated software. Fortunately I don’t think anyone has noticed and I think we can fix it in time.
But apply your lessons! And don’t just trust people to get critical pieces done in time. From now on I will make a list of necessary components and tasks and cross them off — even if they are not technically my responsibility.
