The Dilbert Blog: Are Men Just Defective Women?

Funny stuff…

Lost - Spoilers Included

We watched “Lost” again last night. I’m completely addicted to the show. I would schedule my whole week around it.

If that were really necessary, you know? As it is I pretty much schedule my 9pm Wednesday night time slot around it.

So I have a couple of Lost-related things to say.

1. Hands down, best show on tv.
2. So did Sun sleep with the bald guy or not?! I mean, at the end there Jin clearly believes that a miracle has happened. When he knows Sun can’t see him and we’re led to believe that its a moment of honesty, he smiles a very sincere smile. But SUN! Sun doesn’t have a smile. She looks worried. I think she slept with the bald guy.
3. I listened to the Lost-podcast this morning and overall I didn’t care for it. They spent too much time talking about why they have so many reruns. One interesting thing that came out of it was that the whole Walt-thing will get cleared up by the end of this season. WHEW!

So that was Wednesday

All in all I think I’m glad to see Wednesday come to an end.

I’ve got a lot of work to do right now because I’m getting ready to leave and start this new job in Cambridge. So I’m training someone else to take over for me. They don’t know the first thing about SAP so we’re starting at the beginning. We’ve spent about four hours so far discussing architecture and whatnot. I can’t believe the poor guy has stayed awake through everything. I mean its technical and in some cases I went in to too much detail and it probably stopped making sense. In other cases I probably didn’t get in to enough detail and it didn’t make sense.

nonetheless, he seems to be catching on ok. I’m surprised he’s retaining as much as he is. tomorrow we’re going to start having him do some of the work. I don’t think you get nearly as much out of a learning experience by sitting back and just absorbing someone lecturing at you. So I’m hoping things will start to gel for him a little tomorrow. he’s going to need a ton of classes and it will probably be a year or two before he gets good.

Yesterday Liz was telling me that whenever she vacuums Gracie, who is still a little put out by the vacuum cleaner, hops up in one of our chairs and calls Petie. He actually HATES the vacuum cleaner. he’s terrified of it. Well, while Liz vacuums the living room Gracie sits there and hugs Peterman to make him feel safe. I’m sure it makes her fel better too. It makes a pretty cute mental image of the two of them sitting there huddling together for comfort while the vacuum cleans up the room.

This only came up because Peterman needed a bath. He hates baths. It turned out that Grace ALSO needed a bath, so I put them both in the tub. Normally I put the dog in the tub and then fill it so he doesn’t take a leak on the bathmat. He’s not crazy about it and I have to keep a hand on him to keep him from leaping from the tub. This time he was soaking wet when I realized I had left the shampoo on the other side of the room in a cabinet. I knew that if I let him go he would definitely jump out of the tub. Grace offered to hold him. I kind of chuckled because I knew there was no way she could hold him if he wanted to jump out. But I had little choice.

Wouldn’t you know that in the same way they clung to each other for comfort in the living room Peterman stayed in the tub and let Grace hold him while I got the towel and shampoo? It was pretty adorable.

Then we gave him a nice long bath. And I should probably say that by the time he got out Grace was probably dirtier from the filthy water than before the bath.

Chili Cook-off

So they’re having a Chili Cook-off at work. There are some very serious chili people there I am sure they all have thier tried and true recipes and I don’t really stand a chance.

I haven’t made chili in years and I certainly haven’t made a study out of it to come up with combinations I like.

Nonetheless, my competitive nature demands I beat my friends and neighbors in to submission. After I kick their collective asses at making chili they will bow down before me and pronounce me their king.

Here’s the recipie I found online that looks promising (I may substitute the ground beef for a low quality chopped beef)

Beef Chipotle Chili

2 canned whole chipotle chilies in adobo or
2 dried whole chipotle chilies
1 cup water, boiling hot if using the dried chilies
2 large onions, chopped
8 garlic cloves
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons ground cumin
4 pounds ground beef
1 28 ounce can tomatoes including the juice, pureed coarse
2 cups chicken broth
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano, crumbled
2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
1 green bell pepper, chopped
Two 4-ounce cans mild green chilies, drained and chopped
1 tablespoon cornmeal
1 19 ounce can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup chopped fresh coriander

Not in work today

1. I will not be in the office today. I’m taking the day off.

2. I quit my job yesterday. I put in my resignation to my boss just before I left for the day. My last day will be March 31st. I’m really excited about the change and think it will do me a lot of good. The money is somewhat better and it looks like there’s a lot of opportunity for me there. I will be running the show, so to speak. I will be in charge of the system and I think it will be a lot of fun getting it set up and going. There’s a lot to do.

3. Its Liz’s birthday today. Its her anual 29th birthday celebration. Well, the exciting part won’t happen until a week from today. More on that another time. For tonight, though, I’m getting her a cake from my favorite bakery (The Sweet Spot Bakery on Emerson St) and giving her a couple of presents I picked up. No matter what big event may be coming up later, a person should have a present on their birthday.

4. We have guests coming over this weekend coming partly because we haven’t seen each other in a while and partly for Grace’s birthday party and partly for the Star Wars exhibit at the Museum of Science in Boston. At LAST I got someone to go with me! Actually I think my kids would have had a good time from early on, but I was thinking of a grown up who would have fun.

Ok, I hear the kids are up and rattling around. I should go. More later.

how do you get down from an elephant?

You don’t. You get down from a duck

hah! I love that one.

HAH!! We’re back in business!!

Yes, I don’t have the actual Blogrilla-look back yet, but at least the blog is back up and we’re cookin’ with gas again!

Looks like I only missed a couple of days. What’s new here? Nothing much. I’m starting to feel more like my old self. That was a nasty flu I had! Over the weekend I did some activities like cleaning up the ice rink on Sunday. On Saturday we went to Plimoth Plantation to help them clean up from the winter time.

There was a lot of raking and sweeping. We carried a lot of straw and sticks from the yards and the roads to a heap. After a while someone said they needed help with the erosion team — so I dug dirt for a while. That was actually the best part. It felt good being out in the sunshine and doing somethign useful. Chloe did a lot of cleaning of furniture too. Grace and Gabriel stayed with me for most of the time. We eventually stopped around 12:30pm for lunch. Afterwards we went home and I took the rest of the afternoon off. I was still feeling under the weather and was pretty much tapped.

On Saturday, we’re having a fourth birthday party for Gracie over at Chuck E. Cheese. She’s inviting all of her little friends and she’s really tickled about having her own birthday party! We’re having some friends from Portland, Maine coming down and we always have a lot of fun with them; so I’m looking forward to it. Plus they’re bringing my shipment of girlscout cookies!

I’m taking Friday off from work.

Ok, that’s about it for now. Everyone is happy and healthy again. So things are fine.

See? It wasn’t just me who got sick…

I’ve attached a memo I got through email at work. For all of you who thought I was faking or that I had a weak constitution, I want to use this to show you that if it was JUST me they wouldn’t be taking such drastic measures. Frankly, I’ve never known management to do this kind of thing. Employees must be dropping like flies for management to take unprecedented and not free steps like these.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE TO BE PERFORMED TO HELP FIGHT COLD AND FLU SEASON

This year March did come in like a lion, a lion with a bad cold. In order to assist in the fight against cold and flu, the building maintenance department will be providing the following services:

  • New filters will be installed in all HVAC systems
  • This weekend the building’s air systems will be purged
  • Sanitizing lotion will be placed in all bathrooms and kitchen areas throughout the building

Additionally, starting Monday, March 13 and on each Monday and Tuesday thereafter, the building cleaning service will sanitize all work surfaces and phones in the 2C area. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings the 1C area will be serviced. On Friday evening the “A” building will be treated.

When it is your area’s scheduled service, please be sure to remove all papers from your work surface. If an area is not cleared the surfaces will not be sanitized. If you work in an office you are asked to leave your office open on your scheduled day. If this is not possible, you can arrange for the maintenance department to provide materials to you for self cleaning.

Most importantly, wash your hands often.

This place is disgusting

So you know I was out sick and that the rest of my dept was also under the weather. I’m sitting here listening to the foulest concentration of sneezing, wheezing, coughing and hacking I’ve ever seen.

Phlegm and mucus must be everywhere. Today is the first day that I feel close to normal but there are a ton of other people here who spreading huge amounts of noxious slime and germs all over.

No wonder we all got sick at the same time! Its a closed system here. Nobody has any walls or privacy and germs are distributed througout the dept.
