Friday’s update
1. Good news! My eMusic subscription kicked in for this month and now I have 65 songs I can download. I love this about the beginning of the month! Its like getting a birthday present every third day of the month!
2. Work is still the same, so lets not discuss it.
3. So the computers from Dell arrived on Wednesday evening. I placed the order on Sunday afternoon! They came really quick. I set them up in the playroom. Chloe “helped”. Wednesday evening both computers were operational.
I took off yesterday afternoon to run ethernet cable from one end of the house to the other. I drilled a hole in the wall between the duneon and the den through the cabinet that holds the sink. But I didn’t have one of those nice cylinder-shaped bits so I was able to make a couple of holes with a regular drill and then chisseled out what was left.
I know you’ll be suprised, but it came out looking kind of crappy. But that’s ok, you can’t see the hole anyway. Its just I hate making something look terrible.
I connected the cable to the wireless router and ran the other end from the dungeon through an exterior wall to a crawlspace under the playroom. I hate that crawlspace. There were rodents in there at one time, but I poisoned them and they stopped coming around. Nonetheless, its still a vile little place! I took a break and went to Starbucks for a triple-grande latte and stopped at the hardware store to get one of those cylinder-shaped bits to cut a hole neatly in the floor.
Hmmm… it didn’t work out as well as I had hoped. When I put the bit on the floor I tried hard to make sure the whole thing connected evenly and at once but that didn’t keep it from skipping across the floor and gouging scratches in the hardwood playroom floor. Eventually I figured out that if I angled the drill sharply and pushed the bit down firmly and decisively it would bite in to the wood and THEN I could straighten it out and make a nice neat hole.
But I’m afraid one of the holes I drilled is surrounded by awful gouges.
Again, I’m fortunate that nobody will probably see the terrible marks.
Finally I dropped a got one of the ethernet cables pulled up to the computer. Sadly, the hole for the other computer got drilled straight in to one of the giant support beams and I’ll never be able to go all the way through it. I’ll have to make a second hole. Sigh.
I installed SafeEyes on one of the computers and got Norton AntiVirus and SystemWorks installed in both places. I have mixed feelings about putting a filtering program in place like SafeEyes, but I’ve seen the things Ben can wander in to while innocently looking for Pokemon information. And I think this will make me feel much better.
The weekend should be quiet. I don’t think we have any plans. Liz still feels a little lousy so maybe the extra rest will do her some good.
