Gov. of Kazakhstan is not amused
hah!
So I’m out sick today.
No, no, no… save the flowers and get-well-soon cards and all. I’ll be ok.
So I’m stuck at home watching “The Daily Show” and catching up on some work so I won’t be totally swamped by the time I get back.
But I think I’m going to go back to bed soon.
Also, it looks like the demolition next door won’t be happening due to the rain.
Wimps.
Sphere: Related ContentI’ve never been fond of Tuesdays. They’re stil the beginning of the week but lack the novelty of Mondays.
I didn’t get to the gym last night. By the time 8pm rolled around I was too tired. If I fall asleep in a chair or something I can’t go out again for the rest of the night.
Today I notice that I’ve come down with a cold. My throat is very sore and I’m wiped out. You know, standard run-of-the-mill cold symptoms. But I’m certainly not going to the gym feeling lousy.
And today another boss, farther up the food-chain than my other boss pulled me aside and wanted to know what had happened yesterday. Apparently someone on the other side of the room spoke to another manager commenting that it was unprofessional.
I guess it was.
I’ve agreed to appologize for how I got my point across. I continue to stand behind my point, and nobody has asked me to change that, but I suppose I shouldn’t have opened up with both barrels like that.
I hate apologizing.
The nextdoor neighbors — the apartment building with the wall that’s fixing to come down — are starting their work tomorrow. They’ll tear down a section of fence so they can get a bobcat in to my yard and they’ll tear everything up and then replant grass in the spring.
I just hope they don’t damage the house!

Sphere: Related ContentI wonder how much rage I have. You know if you could count volume of rage in, for instance, cubic meters or cubic yards or something.
I just had to get all pissed off and angry at someone on the other side of the cubicle wall from me. Someone on my team told them to logout and she would remove the locks that are hanging up what they were doing.
They explained that what they were doing was display-only and therefore they didn’t need to logout. The person on my team isn’t a “type-a” personality and I don’t think she felt comfortable giving orders.
So the person on my team released the locks. And I had a complete shitfit.
The people on the other side of the cube didn’t listen to what she said to do and when confronted about it said I had misheard what had happened. I told them that I had heard everything and that when my colleague had told them to logout they shouldn’t have argued with her about it and explained why it was ok for them not to logout.
We had it out in the middle of Cubeville in front of everyone. I came out winning — or looking like the bigger asshole or whatever. And I’m certain they’ll never make that mistake again, but I’m normally a pretty laid back guy and not prone to shitfits. Now my supervisor is asking if there’s anything outside of the argument to explain my behavior. He wound up approving, I think and when I told him I was trying to decide whether or not to appologize he suggested I don’t.
I need a vacation. Maybe some more exercise. I didn’t exercise last week at all because my foot was in such pain. Over the weekend I got zapped by some gout. It became acute because I didn’t notice the pain early on due to the other pain in my foot.
So maybe I need to get out and burn off some anger this evening so I can return to my more mellow and happier self.
On the other hand the rage wasn’t pointless. I had a valid reason to be angry with them and … well I wonder if it changed how people look at me? Worse?
Better?
A friend of mine told me I should stop being so nice. Maybe this will prove more beneficial than detrimental.

Store’s opening locks area roads
By Michael Levenson, Globe Correspondent | November 14, 2005
STOUGHTON — For most of New England, the opening of an IKEA store here last week meant the arrival of copious amounts of blond wood furniture. At long last, the Swedish retail giant had brought its tables and chairs with names like Bölsö and Enköping to the Bay State.
But for some residents on the streets surrounding the megastore, the grand opening has not been cause for celebration. In a few short days, neighbors such as Ken Ward have watched in horror as their quiet community has been turned into a parking lot and feeder road for hordes of consumers bent on sprucing up their homes.
Sphere: Related ContentWe watched “Batman Begins” last night.
It sucked. Sure it was a completely different kind of movie from the other three, but that didn’t bother me. I can get down with that.
But the story sucked and I didn’t like some of the directions the movie went. It was heavy-handed and predictable in a lot of ways.
Stay clear.
Sphere: Related ContentThe weekend went well. We had guests for most of Saturday and Sunday. My buddy from high school, who lives in Portland, Maine came down and brought his wife and two daughters. We get along with all of them so well — its always really great to see them. Their daughters get along with my kids so well that Chloe refers to one of his girls as her “best friend”. She doesn’t see her very often but they’ve developed a strangely tight personal bond.
When they arrived we visited for a while and got everyone settled. Peterman (aka El Doggo) was thrilled to see Cocoa and Sadie. Both dogs are much larger than Petie, but he doesn’t seem to let that stand in the way of a good time and he demanded to be played with all weekend. They certainly enjoyed themselves.
After lunch we took our guests over to Wakefield where there used to be a really great wooden play structure. Last month they razed it to the ground and replaced it with a steel and plastic thing. I like the other one better. Its not that this one doesn’t have an appeal, but the other one was larger and somehow grander. Still they all had a good time and the growed-ups kept catching up.
When we got back we sat down to a nice dolly tea party that Liz had put together. It was funny, actually. She had the tiniest little scones, muffins and pastries that seemed to come fom dolly-sized tins. The kids brought their dolls and stuffed animals and had a good time.
I grilled some steaks for supper, but I have to confess that I wasn’t happy with how they came out. Although they were marinated they came out really tough. Part of that is because Liz likes her steak well done, but I think I’m also doing something wrong. She told me later that because the steaks always come out so poorly she’s always hesitant to ask me to make them. So I need a sure-fire method of producing tender, juicy, well-done steaks.
Any suggestions?
That night the kids watched a movie and I think we stayed up late talking. So did the girls. I think Chloe and her buddy were up until 9:30pm or so!
On Saturday we spent a liesurely morning getting going but by 10am we were at the Children’s museum. It was a good museum and the kids enjoyed it. We stayed for about 3 or 4 hours and then came home and saw our guests off.
There was no fighting. No broken bones or hurt feelings. In my book that’s a successful weekend!
Good news! My brother-in-law, Rodney, called from his cell phone to tell me he was on the observation deck of the cruise ship he and his family were on.
SOB.
No, not really. I tried to tell him how happy I was for him that he got to take such a great vacation. They’re gone for 5 days and I’m sure they’ll have a good trip.
So, in conclusion, all is well. I’m taking off next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because I have some vacation time to burn up. We may go to the new Ikea store that just opened up in Stoughton. The news keeps running story after story about how terrible the traffic and parking are. I hope that by going mid-day we shouldn’t have any trouble with it.

Well, that’s not strictly accurate. I won $2. I put that towards 10 more numbers. The estimated jackpot is up to $310 million.
