Not as bad as I thought
I stopped going to the fitness center last May. They were supposed to be closed for four weeks for remodelling, but remained closed for eight. During that time I tried very hard to keep going to the YMCA and to ride my bike whenever i could but I never did find a groove. I was never able to build the habit to conitnue exercising.
So I didn’t go back when they opened up again. And I ate foods I shouldn’t have.
French fries
Potato chips
A lot of pizza
High fat / high carb
Over the last few months I noticed that my shirts didn’t fit quite as well as they had and I felt flabby again. Today, for the first time in five months I got back to the gym at work. They were happy to see me and welcomed me with open arms.
Everything was different but familiar. The old habits came back quickly and I had a good work out. At the beginning of the workout I weighed in at only seven poinds more than my lowest point. The exercise worked off 4lbs of water, so when I finished I weighed 258.
That’s still unacceptably high. Don’t get me wrong: i have a lot of work to do. But I had suspected my weight was much higher.
So now I feel well-positioned to pick up my old habit of exercising every day and will hopefully start dropping the pounds quickly. My goal is 200lbs, which I guess is still technically overweight, but I think I’ll be happy with losing 80lbs.
If I can do 5lbs a month I’ll be there in a year.
Yeesh… that seems like a long way to go. I bet that as I get thinner I’ll become more active and capable of dropping weight faster. I mean 5lbs a month is a very conservative estimate, isn’t it?
