Woman Sues Pizza Hut Over Burned Chin : The Morning Call Online

Amazing. I saw this on Fark.com. They often have funny headlines that are almost accurate. I thought this one was exaggerated, but this article is actually about a man who’s suing Pizza Hut because his wife burned her chin on some hot cheese and can no longer offer him oral sex!!

[...]
“Her husband, Hatem Hassanin, is suing for the loss of companionship and comfort of his wife.”

wow.

A Close Call

So I was watching “The Daily Show” with my nine year old son, Benjamin. Now, I know its normally on late at night so they can put on material that isn’t necessarily appropriate for the short set. They were talking about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the M&M balloon that crashed and injured some people.

While describing the picture of the yellow M&M nestled up right behind the red one John Stewart explained that this was a picture of one piece of delightful chocolate sodomizing another.

Naturally Benjamin’s first question was “Daddy, what’s ’sodomizing’ mean?”

Normally Liz is the one who gets these kinds of questions. I have a way of always seeming to dodge the bullet. I mean who wants to talk about sodomy with their nine year old?

What’s a good father to do? Do I settle in and explain the details of what it means? Pros? Cons? Gotchas? Do’s and Don’ts? Etiquette?

I could just explain that he’s too young to discuss such things.

Or you could do what I did.

Just pretend nothing happened.

Nothing.

At all.

Happened.

This is a good Podcast. The first episode I listened to the author explained that he hates his phone. He’s had it for four years and hates everything about it. Apparently its made out of “Human Ass”.

Outward Bound

Outward Bound Wilderness :: Outward Bound Wilderness Home

I’ve always admired Outward Bound and never really got a chance to do very much with it when I was a kid. Scouting fulfilled a lot of the same purposes - that is, introducing me to the outdoors and teamwork and self confidence.

I got a catalog from Outward Bound today and I’d love a chance to go on a weeklong backpacking trip, you know? They have canoeing adventures and all kinds of stuff. I think some day I’ll give it a go.

Geocaching and then some

(GCR584) Hard Cold Cache by eschwartz

We had a quiet Sunday morning. I read the newspaper and drank some coffee. I got the kids fed and the dog was put out. Everything was good.

Liz went to Target for some shopping while I took Petie and the kids geocaching. We found one out of two. We abandoned the search for the second long before we got anywhere close to it. The kids and I had been hiking for a while — it was a mile or so through the woods. We went up some very steep slopes and came down one cliff. By the time we got to the geocache the smaller people were starting to get whiney and crabby so with only a quarter of a mile to go I called off the hunt for the second cache.

All in all, I had a good time geocaching with the kids. Its been a long time since we’ve been and it turns out that I missed it a little. I’ve got some more caches lined up that me and the kids will go after next weekend and see if we can’t kick start this hobby.

Instead they played on a playground for about 15 minutes. Finally we headed home and it was a long walk. They did well, I have to say. Afterwards we swung by Kelly’s for roastbeef, grilled cheese and hotdogs. It was a nice family-type of event.

The Patriots lost to Kansas City - ugh. What an awful game. It was even worse than the 26-16 score suggests.

Since I didn’t get a chance to catch up with my folks on Thanksgiving I took some time on Sunday to talk with them. I also tried to speak to my brother but he wasn’t able to get away during his cross-country trip to Orlando.

All’s well

Thanksgiving was good.

My old roommate from college, Chuck came up for a visit on Wednesday. We didn’t do anything interesting, really. Well, on Friday I took the family to three games of LaserTag. Chuck liked it. Liz enjoyed it. Grace was really great. She didn’t get to play but she managed to be good and enjoy herself nonetheless.

We watched a fair amount of football. We also watched Star Wars, Episode III. Today, Saturday, Grace wasn’t feeling well so her mother stayed home with her while I took the other kids and Chuck to Salem. It was a fine little trip but nothing special — I wish I had been able to show him something more interesting.

Everyone got along and it was a fine visit.

The kids have been great. Liz made a great Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. I’m still nibbling on it and loving the roast turkey.

I better roll.

More later.

Still alive

The good news: I’m still alive.

Yes, yes, thank you, I’m tickled about it myself. I’m over the cold/flu I had except that I continue to have a cough that’s troubling me. Nonetheless, I’m away from work for the rest of the week. My college roommate, Chuck, is scheduled to arrive via amtrak on Wednesday evening at 21:59 in Boston’s South Station. He’ll stay for Thanksgiving weekend and I’m sure we’ll have a good time.

The backyard is a complete wreck. The demolition crew is in the midst of dismatling the concrete retaining wall that holds up my neighbor’s driveway. That is, the neighbor is an apartment building and the wall was tilting badly. They’ve had a devil of a time digging the reinforced concrete out of the ground though. There’s a giant excavator and a bobcat tearing apart the neighbor’s driveway. I’ve uploaded some photos to Flckr.

There’s been some minor damage to the house — some of the siding was damaged and they’re in the process of replacing it. Also there was sort of a “weed” tree that was really badly in their way and they offered us $200 of we would just let them take it down. We talked them in to replacing it. They promised not to give us a little sapling but will instead give us something larger. They’re also supposed to give us a gift certificate to Polcari’s — a local italian restaurant we like. Ant’ny said he liked it too.

Still sick

I’m recovering from my illness. Chills, fever, sore muscles, headache. We got a notice from Chloe’s school saying someone in her class has something called Fifth disease. It starts off like this, but kids often develop a rash on their faces or arms that can last for 2-3 weeks.

So, maybe I had a cold/flu for three days or maybe I had/have fifth disease. I’ll probably never know so it I don’ t think it makes any difference one way or the other.

Today I didn’t feel sick but I still feel tired. Very tired. So I rested up today. I’m hoping that tomorrow I’ll be right as rain.
