We’re at Smuggler’s Notch! The trip up
here went well. We broke the trip up by stopping at “The Fort and
number 4″, an old civilian fortification from 300 years ago. It was a
fort designed and maintained by the fourth agricultural plantation on
the Connecticut River. We had a nice scenic drive winding along the
Connecticut river until we got there. We had some good pizza for lunch
and then checked out the fort. It was children’s weekend but it was
still kind of deserted. We didn’t have as much time to spend going over
everything in detail the way we wanted.
It took us another couple of hours on the road to get to Stowe, Vt. The
Green Mountains are really beautiful and I can absolutely visualize
living up here. I could totally live here. At night I can see all the
stars and the smell is of lumber and the woods. It feels great.
The kids are having a super time. We weren’t sure if Grace would be in
with the non-potty-trained babies or the recently potty-trained
toddlers, but we decided to send her with the older ones and it was the
right decision. She had no accidents and a wonderful time. All the kids
went from 10am to 4pm! We saw Gabe and Ben during the day and though
they both looked tired they were both having a good time.
They were happy to see us when we came to get them at the end of the
day. Tomorrow Ben is going to try mountain boarding — its a wide long
skateboard with big soft wheels. I’ll let you know how it goes.
The boys decided not to go n the campout, but Chloe seems gung-ho for
it.
We went shopping in Stowe and Jeffersonville. It was uneventful.
Now Liz doesn’t feel well. And by that I mean she has a lot of pain on
her left side in the back. She’s also nauseaus. Frankly I’m wondering
if it kidney stones!
I really hope Liz doesn’t get her vacation wrecked by something as
painful as kidney stones. I have to admit that it would be just her bad
luck to get the most non-treatable syndrome WHILE on vacation!
I’m still hoping to go mountain biking and canoeing (sp?).
The kids collapsed in bed tonight. We’ve been swimming in the evening
and then we had Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for snack and then an hour
or so of winding down time. They were SO tired! They’re having a great
time. Now Liz and I need to tend to ourselves and make sure we have fun
too.
