How will I top Saturday?
Saturday started early. At 6:45am I got up and fed the kids, the
pigs and made sure everyone was dressed. By 7:30am I had cleaned
up the dishes and headed out the door to the YMCA. I worked out for about fifteen minutes and rode the bike hard for another 30 minutes.
By the time I got home I was soaking wet - in no small part because of
all the rain that was coming down. I had stopped by Dunkin Donuts
to get Liz a croissant and I thought the kids would like some
Munchkins. I had a bagel with cream cheese and salmon.
After I got my stinky self cleaned up I piled the kids in the car to take them to Bonkers.
Liz offered to tag along but her cold is really kicking her butt and I
suggested she stay home, so she did. She stayed home and rested
while I took the kids out. Bonkers was fine. The kids were
good and it wasn’t very busy. We got there right after they
opened at 10am. The kids played for a couple of hours and then we
went to Chili’s for lunch.
The kids were very good for that excursion too. I wanted to pick up my new fishing license from Dick’s Sporting Goods
so we went over there. They still have a giant rock climbing wall
so we stuck around and waited so Ben, Gabriel and Chloe could get a
chance to climb the wall. They all did quite well! Ben and
Gabriel got to the top and they were really proud of themselves.
Truth be told, I was very proud of them too. The last time they
tried this feat they didn’t get half way up.
It was Chloe’s first try and I’m sure she’ll do better next time.
We got home around 2pm and sat with Liz for a little while before
getting up and introducing my boys to the classic strategy game of
“Risk“! We had a good time. It took a short while to figure
out how to play and I think we still have a couple of kinks to work
out, but it went well. I should have predicted it, but had
forgotten how personal Risk can become. Gabriel was saddened to
the point of tears when I had to attack him. Ben seemed to get it
and he was very excited to get a leg up on everyone. Within a few
turns though, I was able to dominate the game.
By that time it was nearly 5pm. Liz was still feeling lousy so I
took the kids to Fudrucker’s for dinner. It was delicious but I
was going a little out of my head trying to keep track of everyone and
do everything we needed to do. It wasn’t a pleasant meal for me
– but the burger was outstanding!
I got their second smallest burger (out of four) and was completely
stuffed. I had no french fries or anything and I was packed to
the gills with (what was originally) a half-pound burger. I guess
next time I’ll get the smallest one. Anyway, it was delicious!
Now I’ve had it up to here with kids and bickering and I don’t feel
like listening to any of them any more. I think I need to do some
grown-up stuff for a while. It was a long and busy (fun) day.
