Strep
I woke up this morning and my uvula was very swollen. I assumed
it was because I had been snoring and it had been beaten up by getting
banged around in my throat. It was so swollen that if I lay on my
back or leaned far forward it would block my windpipe.
When I got to work I thought I should check in with my doctor.
Really I didn’t know if I should even bother going in. The
receptionist suggested I stop by. So I did. I met “Marty”
the nurse practictioner. She was very nice. She suspected
it was strep throat and took a swab. In about 3 minutes she came
back smiling.
“Yup! Its strep!” she chirped.
“Why does that make you so happy?” I asked.
“strep I can fix.”
So she gave me some antibiotics and some progesterone to address the
badly swollen uvula. I took the rest of Thursday off and intend
on taking Friday off as well.
I feel mostly ok. I’m a little fatigued but I had always thought
strep throat was very very painful. And its not. But it is
very contagious so I’m going to stay home and tell my kids not to touch
me.
I guess there’s nothing that says I have to work tomorrow — I had just
assumed I would work from home. I think I probably will work for
about six hours and mark two hours down as “sick”. That should be
a fair representation of my situation.
