I watched Kerry’s acceptance speech…

I watched Kerry’s acceptance speech last night. It didn’t exactly blow me away. I like him and I think he’ll make a good president, but the democratic party has better speakers. That’s simply not where his strength lies. Don’t get me wrong: he’s a very capable public speaker but I didn’t feel he was able to connect with … well, me actually!

I thought Clinton’s speech was outstanding and that Gore’s speech was also very good. Obama’s speech was very engaging and it was good introduction for him to America.

One thing I did like about last night was one of Kerry’s daughters (the cute brunette) told a story about when she and her sister were little girls they were going off on a family sailing trip. They were all standing on the dock with their luggage, including the much loved hamter, Licorice.

Besides the hamster, the Kerry’s also brought the boistrous family dog who accidentally knocked the hamster cage off the dock and in to the water. Bubbles made their way to the surface as the cage sank and the unluckiest hamster went on to meet her “watery doom”.

Kerry’s daughter admitted that most families would have held an impromptu pet-funeral on the dock. Everyone would have moved on and been sad, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. Senator Kerry actually lept in to the water to save the little rodent! He also used the end of an oar to fish out the cage and went on to administer CPR to the family pet! Amazing.

Ms. Kerry also explained that the use of mouth-to-mouth has been disputed ever since that day.

Licroice survived the trauma but “was never right” afterwards.

Funny story.
