I’ve seen The Who’s movie, Tommy several times but the sexual abuse and physical abuse was lost on me. I think the sexual abuse that’s present in the music is not represented at all in the movie, which the physical abuse is only hinted at. Heck, the whole way through the album it seems like Tommy is being assaulted by one lecherous or sadistic relative after another.

It makes all the music more distasteful, I guess. Maybe that’s shallow of me, but I liked the music better before I paid attention to it.
